So I'm waiting on my '13 800a to deliver and already have a feeling I will be upgrading the audio. I've read many threads about upgrades to the Nav Sony package but not much on the stock 2013 system. Have 3 main questions.

1. What's a great plug and play set of replacement speakers using the factory HU/amp

2. What's a great speaker and amp combo that can be easily integrated to the factory HU

3. Is there much difference in the stock '13 audio from the stock '12 audio (speaker size / location/ HU integration)? Other than the new 4.2" display

I'm looking for sound quality similar or better than what I have now in my 2012 F150 king ranch that has the Sony Nav package, but I don't want to take up any space under the rear seat with a subwoofer.

without the nav, i believe you dont have the oem amplifier. the doors are wide open for you. its just a matter of budget

I'd like to stay under 1k, Already have a crazy loud system in my boat :).

Have you ever heard of a helix pp50dsp? Was thinking about doing this plus 4 JL 2-ways for the doors. I've heard alot of mixed reviews on the JL cleansweep. The helix is supposed to have pretty much the same internals as the jbl ms-8 (which gets good reviewsand plus it has a low power amp that should be ok for the JL 2 ways. I'm not doing a sub, so my thoughts on this are partly driven by clean packaging. Looks like I could probably mount this DSP either behind the dash or under the console (where the luxury package Sony amp is mounted, which I don't have). This would really simplify the install.

Would like to get some opinions if I'm over thinking the need for a good DSP with the basic '13 OEM HU, or should I just get a cheap LOC and a nice 4 ch amp.

First thing I did was took out the factory sub and added 2 Kicker CVR 10's under the back seat with an amp pushing it. I also connected a Kicker zx350.4 amp to all 4 doors/tweeters and that made a HUGE HUGE did I say HUGE difference. The amp isnt even a third of the way turned up on gain and I still couldnt turn it up all the way. Night and Day difference!!

Of course me wanting more, I then replaced all the doors/tweeters with polyglass Focals and now it's so loud I swear I thought my ears were going to bleed. (I had to adjust the tweeters down) Focals are famous for having very bright tweeters so it's not for everyone.

It's not only loud but a lot cleaner and the vocals are far superior. Still debating if I need to do a JL cleansweep/summing device or Audison bit10 or just leave it alone.

But if you just add an aftermarket amp to the factory speakers you will be impressed if you are on a tight budget
