The 10 speed is great with an MPT transmission tune. I don't like how it shifts stock form...shifting 1-3-5-7 is super annoying b/c with the Ecoboost engine you hit the turbo lag when skipping a gear and that results in a power delay such as when coasting around a corner and wanting to accelerate quickly and merge into traffic. You can also run it in tow mode which will force it to use all the gears but the MPT tune is excellent and how the transmission should have been programmed from the factory.

I am too early in my ownership to comment on reliability, only 7K on the truck but no issues so far.

My tranny slams into every odd gear.

That is all lol. And slams into all gears in sport mode :)

very happy with mine as well - late production 2018. i was also the only person to drive mine so it has always been learning from my drive habits.

another post said he had cured his by unhooking the battery, clearing the memory and starting fresh with a new relearn.

I have an 18 with 12000 miles that in normal mode shifts buttery smooth. I am trying to work on sport mode to see if it will learn to be smoother in certain gears that seem to be the hard shifting ones. I’m finding that in sport mode it’s all about what your doing with the gas pedal that causes it to bang gears. If your holding pedal steady it goes through the gears without any hard banging but if you feather the pedal up and down like to speed up through traffic it does a bit of hard shifting. Just my findings as I go through learning this awesome vehicle. I personally like the 10 speed tranny and seldom use gears 9 & 10 unless I’m out on the open road fora long haul. In town & local driving not above 7th. I burn 93 non ethanol gas and she’s averaging 16.4 to 16.6 in local & town driving. I’m loving life with this truck. Just my 2 CT’s.

Hey guys. First off I want to say Hi. I've been looking on these forums for a while and really wanting a Raptor for a long time. I'm in the process of getting rid of my current ride and will be looking for a Used 2019. I have some questions about the 10 speeds though. I currently own a GM 8 speed and can't stand it. How are the 10 speeds running? I know Ford and GM worked on the 10 speed together and the 8 speeds have a class action right now along with the 10 speed as of Aug. Have you been having problems? Thanks...

Bro- came from THREE K2 GM trucks, early ‘14 5.3 swapped straight up by dealer for having weak ass 3.23s, then another 5.3 got totaled, then a ‘15 6.2 - all had issues, the 8 speed I think mechanically is fairly stout in theory but between the shoddy torque converters, incorrect amount or type of fluid from the factory, awful programming, yolk/pinion slop & slack, slamming gears, etc etc it wasn’t doing itself any favors.

The 10 speed in raptor exhibits some of the behaviors we’ve come to know from all of GMs trannies mated to a powerful engine- namely, a jarring or hard rough shift from P to D or to R on cold starts or just when the tranny itself has sat a while & hasn’t warmed up- this isn’t new phenomenon- been going on since the 4L80 days w/ Camaro & GTO & truck etc

But in general this tranny is night & day better. I think w/ the right tune is probably as flawless as they come, but I typically drive in factory sport mode.

Does have the “learning” algorithm idiosyncrasies but I wouldn’t let it be a concern.

Is it as smooth as the 8 speed ZF in a Ram? Probably not...but you’re gambling on a lot of other stuff aside from tranny w/ a Ram too...

Feel free to PM me for More info or search my name on the forum I’ve had some pretty in depth reviews of my experience moving to “the dark side” lol- been mostly GM guy for life

1000%- I now exclusively drive in sport mode & even tho I have pulled the trigger on a tuner I haven’t installed yet....will for sure report before/after experience.

Sport mode + 4A + TC off in the wet
Sport + 4A + TC on in the wet + downpour or light snow

Heavier snow I go normal + 4hi, but if I wanna have fun Baja + tc off in the heavy stuff

Tranny shifts to firmly? Maybe I need to read that story again, but one comment was something about lose of acceleration, ok. Otherwise I didn’t read there were numerous hard failures of the transmission. More like sour grapes or many expecting a luxury car ride. Interesting however.
As for the 8 speed, I haven't heard of failures either. The main problem I have is banging when coming to a stop 2-1 downshifts, It randomly lurches forward and sounds like someone hit me from the rear. 5th gear clunks when it's cold. For a $50+K truck this shouldn't happen nevermind a 70+ raptor.

Shifts too firm?....again goes back to driver experience and expectations....coming from a average car?...then the shifts might be just the right amount of firmness but too firm compared to the car..
there are enough ways a trans can mis-behave so no doubt some of firm shift complaints are valid...
