¿Does anyone know what this was/is for?
Never noticed it before until today when I dropped down the OEM spare. 71183CD2-EB32-4F1E-A94E-C9E46EA44C5E.jpegD138D792-B44F-4DEB-9849-7D9F4E32796F.jpeg

When you remove the tailgate with the rearview camera.
But my rear camera works just fine and this has been cut on at some point. Nevertheless, I will trace the rear camera wires.

It's the dust cover for the plug, not wired to anything. You use it when you drive with the tailgate removed.

Yes, I saw that! I got underneath again and figured as much as much. Also, I noticed the the wired end is not really cut off but butt plugged
Thanks, hopes it answers others watching this.

I can tell you this is not a dust cover for the rearview camera. that connection has about 6 wires and is rectangular in shape.

This is a 2 wire connection that has no wires on ether end.
Best guess ford was going to run a wire pair for a third brake light. (like they had on the older models.) but decided to leave the wire in the engine compartment.

I removed my spare and all the associated hardware to show off my diff cover LOL. It's in the bed now but will have a chase rack to hold soon. I couldn't find anything within reach that would plug into this so I removed it. It was pretty much full of mud and dirt.

I have the factory harness that came in the glove box, that plugs into that connector for an aux rear
View camera. Just never found the need for it yet.

Would you mind posting a pic of this factory harness and a part number.
