I’m on the fence with mine as I have the whole suite of common issues; engine chirp, exhaust rattle, long/delayed start. Ford says it’s all normal/expected behaviour. Yeah I’m not sure I buy in that these should be normal things on a truck this expensive.
They replaced my muffler as well for the exhaust rattle, it didn’t solve anything. When I took it back they compared it against other new R’s and called it normal. Suggested an after market exhaust lol.
Interesting, this is what I figured it would have been after striking out on the rest of it.
How did you get your dealer to agree to crack open the timing? It seems like Ford is advising them to standby for the time being and not attempt repairs.
How much louder is this than stock in quiet mode? I think it sounds amazing but need to be able to get in and out of the neighborhood in the mornings without pissing everyone off.
The Ford engineer told my dealer not to attempt additional repairs at this point. Unless a TSB comes out that’s all she wrote for me.
Edit: it’s a numbers game now and if we want a resolution then I suggest everyone with the noise take the truck in and explain the issue. The more times this...
@310Raptor Can’t figure out my manufacture date from the VIN online and don’t have the truck to look at the door stamp so I’ll update when I get it back.
So unfortunate update, my SM went to visit another dealer today and both new trucks on the lot are chirping.
At this point I’m not sure they’re going to do much else even though I said I’m not accepting a “normal” conclusion unless they can explain what part is chirping and why.
Even then I’m...
Good finds, and this tracks with what my SM said about if he was a betting man that it is related to the tensioners. Unfortunately I guess this wasn’t enough to go on to open the engine. The impression I get is unless there is a TSB, or are told directly to do it by Ford’s engineers it isn’t...
Absolutely I agree 1000%, and my service manager feels strongly that it is abnormal, but if Ford calls it normal then it’s a numbers game waiting for enough people to complain about it for them to approve warranty work.
I’ve got updates as well, I just got off the phone with my service manager.
He said the Ford hotline call went nowhere but he’s getting good support from the regional service engineer. Ford wants us to compare to a like unit, but we don’t have any on the lot nearby so the SM is going to try and...
Update. Unsurprisingly the idler pulley replacement didn’t solve the issue. I believe we are on the same page now as far as next steps, they agree that the valve cover area is suspect. They are hesitant to open up the engine and wing it so they have contacted Ford Engineering as well...
Mine is back in tomorrow for the likely pointless pulley replacement. I’ll be leaving it with them for the further diagnostic after that and will try to get them to start looking in the valve area. I’ll also follow up with Ford Canada and hopefully skip the next pointless repair. Will update as...
That’s fair. I’m way too OCD for this and the chirp drives me crazy. Nothing like having your brand new 100k truck sound like a clapped ‘94 Buick. Sometimes I can hear it 20+ feet away in the parking lot.. I’d much rather be marveling at the exhaust note.
Ugh I am super unenthused about the prospect of having timing work done on an engine with 400 miles. I don’t want to spend the foreseeable future trying to chase down new issues that may come up from doing the work.
Before switching to the R I had both the JB4 and the FP calibrations and from a power stand point the JB4 was way better than the FP tune. The transmission shift schedule changes with the FP flash though is where the money is so I ended up running both the JB4 on map 2 instead of 3 on top of the...
That's basically where I'm at. Dealer originally replaced tensioner and a couple belts which didn't correct the squeak, now they're thinking idler pulley which we're currently waiting on parts for. Unless it's some weird combination of belts and pulleys it seems that we're still at square one on...
Another update, noise still present so the parts they swapped aren’t the issue I guess. I’m assuming I’m stuck with it now until after the holidays, I’ll update when I have any new info.
