FRONT
_____________________________________________________________________________________
Similar to the rear, the body on the fronts is about 1.5" longer.
Since the body is basically the bump, you're losing that 1.5" straight out of your compression travel at the shock. I measured the...
I got tired of the trolls and bickering in the other thread with no one actually posting objective evidence of why Gen 2 shocks will/won't work in a Gen 1 truck, so I decided try it out myself. My shocks are in need of rebuild, and I was able to pick up a brand new set of Gen 2 shocks for $650...
I need to double check my math, but it seems that Ford was kind enough to give us an extra 2" of margin on the rear bump stops (this is measuring to the edge of the metal cup on the bumps, not to the tip of the rubber). Since the Gen II shocks are 1.5" longer than stock when compressed there's...
I should be able to get side-by-side measurements this weekend, but similar to the rear, the compression travel would presumably be reduced by the 1.8" increase in the Gen II front travel. Unlike the rear, extra droop is harder to come by.
I ran out of daylight this weekend and just left the...
There's 29 pages on this topic 3 threads down.
They will bolt right in, but from my preliminary measurements, you need about 1"-1.5" taller bump stops or you will bottom out the longer bodied shocks. I found there's no additional droop, so you lose some travel on stock springs.
I actually want a bit of lift as well because I'm losing the compression travel with the taller bumps.
I don't think there's a good way to get a bit more droop and lift out of the front, is there? I recall CVs may be a limiter. I'll probably take one out to be sure, but I think the fronts...
I haven't gotten around to the fronts yet but I too suspect that between the longer body and limiting straps, travel will be limited there as well.
I bought this set of Gen II shocks for $650 and they're basically brand new, so losing a bit of travel may be worth it to some people. I was...
Alrighty, I finally had time to do some tinkering with this I'm looking at only the rear first and my suspension is all stock otherwise. These measurements were taken with the shock in its free state and compressed as much as I could get with a ratchet strap. The travel seems to be less than...
I'm in need of a shock rebuild on my Gen 1, and it looks like brand new Gen II shocks are going for not much more than that cost. To me, even a slight improvement would justify buying the Gen II shocks. I do offroad pretty hard including jumping, but spending $4k+ for a 3.0 conversion is a bit...
I actually went with this unit along with a magnefine filter and inline temp switch:
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-331200
This thing is massive, so I should have a good bit more fluid capacity as well as no temp problems. I haven't heard any PS whine while duning, so hopefully this...
I have a dunes trip coming up, so I'm looking at upgrades to be ready. I don't have any power steering issues yet and I want to keep it that way.
Has anyone used one of these as a power steering cooler...
Hello All,
I just picked up a 2014 SCREW and plan to really have some fun with it out here in Arizona. In an effort to avoid desert pinstriping and UV damage since it won't be garaged, I looked for a number of temporary protective coatings. Wraps were about as expensive as repainting, and I was...
Hello All,
Long time Lightning owner here. I've wanted a Raptor since they were first announced, and I finally pulled the trigger on a 2014 SCREW. I went to a turbo setup on my Lightning and have missed the supercharger whine (and torque) ever since, so a Whipple is in my Raptor's future...
I just bought a 2014 SCrew in Santa Fe and drove it home to Chandler, Az. Not wanting to draw attention to my lack of real plates, I kept cruise set under 70mph the whole way. Google says 473 miles door to door (didn't think to reset the trip meter), and I used 25.5 gallons. That's 18.5 mpg! I...
