All depends on how much oil you want to waste. If you want to throw an extra oil change in before the first interval I think that's not a bad idea. But with today's full synthetic oils changing at 3,000 mile intervals is pointless.

Very common issue with the Gen1's. I replaced my camera on my 2011 with a new one I got off eBay. Seem to remember there were a number of identical looking models with slight differences that affected whether they would work or not and hugely different pricing. My symptom was garbled video...
