Of the cliche Raptor oopsies, yours is pretty mild. I remember when these trucks were new and people were doing all kind of dumb stuff. Also, wet clay is the enemy of the people.
That's why I really wanted to buy mine from a Ford dealer. The max Ford warranty was honestly pretty cheap and lets me enjoy the truck without care for a long time.
Noted about the Sync update. I have not messed with mine just because it works fine.
The TSB reading "if servicing under warranty" is pretty lame. One would think Ford would cover these outside of the warranty since they have an updated part and its related to the airbag system.
If the choice is between those two, the 22 is a no brainer. I am picky about color and options though and wouldn't own a Raptor unless it's a bright color.
That's awful about the sunroof seals. You'd think Ford would have tested a Raptor doing Raptor things. Maybe the large glass panel just can't be tamed if things get too rough.
I had BFG KO2s in 35x12.5 R20 on my Gen 1. They rode fine for 20s. I used to hear KO2s were hard to balance because their side cleats were so aggressive, but I ran them on a few Jeeps and never had a problem. I run BFG KM2s and now KM3s on two Range Rovers and like them a lot. The KM3s are...
I have been a car guy for a long time, having grown up in European car shops. Cars have always been a big part of my life, and I genuine enjoy them. Most of my best friends are guys I met from highschool-on based on a shared interest in cars. The AMD and crazy inflation I have seen over the last...
I just went through this recently. At 73K miles, I found at least 4 lower plugs with the metal center separated from the rest of the plug. They just slid out with the boots. I found crawling under the truck and reaching up was the easier way to get the rearmost lower plugs on each side.
Blue is such a great color on the Gen 1 (Well, any raptor really). Glad you found one you like. The extended cab and high lift are begging for a bed bar with some yellow-cover KC daylighters for an old school look.
I'd set up an alert on Auto Trader or the like sites. Most Ford dealers auto populate their inventory there, which will give you a shot at a CPO or at least an extended warranty on one. Of course, if you find a good private deal go for it.
Very cool. I honestly think the shorter Gen 1s will be kind of a niche collectable years from now. They're cheaper now because most people want/need the crew, but I think that will change.
In any case, the factory bead wheels and a super charger make this one hot.
I got out of cars and went all into 4x4s after a bad accident (not my fault) thanks to a crazy driver. For a while SUVs and 4x4s with big power were fun, but if you're a car guy you will miss the Mustang.
I'd say truck + sports car beats newer sportier truck. Just save and replace the F150 with...
I can't speak to dealer rates, but the transmission itself at an independent shop is about a $6,000 job. That's for a stock replacement including labor on a regular F150 of the same vintage, so a raptor should be close. You can get pretty beefy 10R80s for around $8,000, but add labor and fluids.
Yeah the mirror shaking was offputting at first. Coming from modern Land Rovers (yeah reliability jokes incoming), I'm used to high build quality on body panels and interior. The Gen 1 is an absolute riot though. I find it's cheaper parts kind of charming in a way, which is the same way I felt...
Very nice! That's my favorite color. The truck is begging for some cool aftermarket wheels (or stock beadlocks at least). It is wild how different the Raptor is to the regular F150.
Try a different dealer (just assuming you've only been through one). I know it sounds goofy, but if you rack up three + visits for the same issue it may be easier to get Ford's attention. Does it bounce or sway dramatically enough to show up on video? Consider reaching out to Ford customer care...
How new is your Gen 3? This is a total guess, but it could be loose trim or bed mounts. You sure it's not something under the rear seat? With all the rushed production today a lot of new car buyers are complaining about build quality, so I could see something being loose.
I don't know of a minivan that would beat a V6 Raptor, or the 6.2 for that matter. Glad you got a new truck, because something was clearly wrong with that ecoboost.
You can find outliers at Manheim all the time. You can watch all day and see 1000 cars sell way over MMR, and a 1000 cars sell way...
I went through this same debacle earlier this year before purchasing my first Raptor. I was always a car guy/ Land Rover guy. I had trucks only for towing/hauling related to those toys r house work. I looked for nearly 4 months to find a red, loaded 13-14 with under 75K miles. I also wanted one...
The best part about owning a Gen 1 is the sound it makes. Second is how reliable they are compared to later trucks. An exhaust is 90% of that sound, but the intake does give it a more guttural growl.
I'd be worried about the warranty if you replace hard parts like the intercooler. Before the MAF and after the cats is the best way to go. I wouldn't mess with the exhaust though. Ford tried really hard with the Gen 3 to make the V6 more palatable.
What's wrong with the sunroof? The glass roof...
