So, drove by my local ford dealer on the way back from picking up some parts for my bov vent to atmosphere “conversion” (5 minute job that costs <$5), and saw a glimpse of blue!
Got all excited when I thought it was a Performance Blue Raptor... but it turned out to be a Lightning Blue ‘18...
What an incredibly easy fix to eliminate one more potential source of oil in the intake!
Did it in about 5 minutes laying on the ground in my garage. No tools required except for a ratchet and T-30 torx bit to remove the skid plate access port.
I simply removed the entire bov pipe ...
Hooray!
Complete... Got the last of the parts back from paint and reassembled:
..and since both tabs had cracks, just took them off and used “a bit” more 3M automotive tape on the back of the trim strip:
...I really wish they’d come up with a better way to get the backing strip off...
Sounds like it needs to go in for service.... could be a lot of things. Maybe something cheap and easy to fix like a loose fitting, or the beginning of a rod bearing going out.
Agree... That said, it’s not very noticible, and only occurs in very specific partial load conditions...at least on my truck. I’d even posit that the vast majority of owners don’t notice it if they do have it.
I’m still trouble shooting my case, and will get it in for a real diagnostic with...
Small update from my end. Did the 542 plugs yesterday and confirmation bias or not it “seemed” to run a bit smoother.
Double checking that the 542s are the same length as the stock plugs before putting them in:
All 6 of the old plugs looked normal to me...no real concerns from what I can...
Hi all,
I’m still a new member and a new Raptor owner, but already getting intimate with the guts of my truck! Have done the tailgate release upfitter switch (documented in Ruby’s switch thread down in the classified forum), where I got far more intimate with my truck’s wiring than necessary...
New Raptor owner and just found this thread.
My ‘18 is doing the same thing. In fact, it was so bad when we test drove it, I thought the tires were out of balance or flat spotted. Clearly it got better but what I thought was them fixing a tire balance issue (they said tires were good...and...
Nice truck... That exact model, color, and year...owned by a neighbor...was the inspiration for my Raptor purchase.
Bump for some lucky person... Hell, I’m tempted and don’t even have the permanent plates for my ‘18 SCAB yet!
I know there are a couple catch can and misfire fix threads here, but some reference two TIP sensors, and other members mention three. For reference, our trucks have speed-density systems, so no true MAF sensor... Correct?
I haven’t pulled the intake system off to clean the throttle body yet...
For those swapping out tailgates, be advised that some of them may require different brackets. I went to test fit the ‘17 tailgate with step to my truck, and quickly realized that the left (driver’s) side bracket is different.

Tailgate from 2017 donor truck:

Thanks!
After opening up far, far more of the loom than required I noticed some wires going straight back to the firewall from the loom immediately above the fuse box:
Right above that huge junction of 5 different looms:
Success!
I never would have found them if I hadn’t opened the...
Well that was fast... Kit’s already here!
Only got 1/2 way through installation over an extended lunch break before I had to head back into work. Friggin’ interior upfitter wires are still playing hide and seek despite me opening ~8” of the harness so far.
Under hood connection was easy...
Won’t let me edit the original post, so posting again... Changed the WTT title since I managed to score a like-new tailgate with the step and camera; just have to get it painted.
Will likely sell my original with appliqué some time in the next few weeks.
Home, and Lil’ Devil is safely ensconced in the garage with the new (to me...2017) tailgate awaiting me finding the time to at least partially dissasemble it for paint:
Will be at least a week or two unless I find time after work before Friday when we head out of town to visit our son.
In...
Well, only on day 3 of ownership and already making mods... waiting patiently down in Houston for a new to me tailgate with step and no appliqué... found two in San Antonio, but one had no step and the other was from a Plstinum (same issue w/appliqué, only in chrome!).
Wish me luck!
