I’ve had the same issue. What works for me is waiting to plug my phone in.
I usually wait to the first stop sign for stop light and plug my iPhone in after the system is all up and running.
It’s a pain but it works.
I use a carabiner on the end of the cable. Just stick it through the hole where your chains attach and clip it back onto the cable.
Not necessarily “cool” looking but it works.
I don’t feel I really took much loss on the repurchase. I paid MSRP for my ‘17.
Ford gave me all my money back minus usage for the 19k miles when the first failure happened.
I was able to buy a ‘20 for approx 6k below MSRP.
Only thing I miss is the Ingot silver.
Here is my invoice from 5/19 this was the second time they were replaced and these failed a little over four thousand miles later for the third time .
Dealer confirmed third failure but I didn’t have them fixed, I asked for a buyback instead.
Don’t let these guys get to you. They are just trying to weed out a troll. Post up a pic of your truck or repair invoice, that could help.
I also had three failures on my ‘17 at 19k, 30k and 34k.
After they started making noise again at 34k I called Ford customer service and ended up getting...
Had both my trucks done with Line-x. I paid $100. Other shops quoted the $300 like others have stated.
My ‘17 had the smooth finish like post #34 but it was a bit too shiny for my taste. I had my ‘20 done in the usual textured finish and I like it much better. It cleans up just the same...
I removed the UPR setup from my ‘17 and installed on my ‘20 with no issues.
The turbo inlet tube is different between the two of them though.
Not a dual can system like the OP asked about but it works great.
So my 2017 has 39k miles on it and has had the phasers replaced at 19k, 30k and they started making noise again at 34k.
Here is a couple of videos for you guys.
The first is when they failed at 30k.
The second is in the dealers lot after 19k phaser replacement, nice and quiet.
The third is...
Do I get to vote 3 times??
Mine is starting to make noise again at 33k. Already replaced @ 19k and 30k. Updated parts used both times. I will probably wait until 35k mile service to take it back to the dealership.
Anyone else on their 3rd time??
I had a failure at 19k and again at 30k. About a month at the dealer each time mainly due to parts availability issues. Sure wish I was part of the 75% without failures.
My truck went to the dealer June 3rd. They told me they had to pull the phasers out of another dealer to get them. So chances are they aren’t an updated part and will fail again.
As for a buy back, I’m really don’t want a 19 for some reason.
I ordered and bought the truck brand new.
They have replaced the phasers twice but I don’t feel they have found the root cause as to why they are failing.
Fortunately they gave me an additional extended warranty after the first failure. I have a feeling I will be needing to use it again.
Just got my 17 back from the dealer today after 3 weeks for phasers. This is the second time @ 30k miles. First time was at 20k miles and took a month. Dealer serviced every 5k with Motorcraft oil and filter.
