Mine are 12 years old and are intact and undamaged. I had no idea that such heavy rubber material could decompose! It's good to know that replacements are available. Thank you, sir!
Sir, for clarification, I was not a soldier. I swore the same oath, but served as a Department of the Army Career Civilian - 36 years, 3 months, 19 days. Best doggone career I can imagine, and I can imagine quite a lot. A lot "rubbed off" in 36 years. Thank you for serving our country.
The paint on the tow loops is actually forest green, and the 3M reflective material is just their version of green. They match pretty well. It's what I could manage. (I never said it was OD, anyway.)
A couple hours hard. ;)
For those who'd like to give it a try, the angle is about 70 degrees and the radius around the 2 is about 7/32" (diameter of 7/16").
My GEN1 came with a "lock," but I don't think that it's key-specific. It's mostly plastic, too, and it's a pain in the butt to get it to work right. @TremorRaptor , is the unit you bought all metal?
Wait. Never mind. I'm not going to be fleeced by Ford to the tune of $141.37 - not even if...
Not to be redundantly repetitive, but my leak turned out to be between the alloy gooseneck and the radiator hose. I did a LOT of unnecessary work, when all I needed to do was drain the system just enough to be able to pull that hose, and clean up and smooth the surface of the gooseneck where it...
I have been thinking about your post, sir, and I think that it is one of the most insightful I've ever read on FRF. You're right! Filling the transmission at its lowest point is ridiculous. There has to be a better way.
Years ago Prestone marketed a little kit that made flushing and filling...
And here is Lance's response:
"I talked to a couple of my lead people. Although we recommend following the instructions, It is in there for better control of the flow and cleanliness. Because there is always that one guy you have to tell not to eat the Tidepods. Good luck."
So, I think I'm...
@gusser, @BalanBro and @TomDirt
I just called the technical support line at Holly Performance (866-464-6553) (Holly owns B&M I think) and talked to Dustin. He pulled up the instructions and could not find the notation that I recall from when I bought and installed the "B&M Locking Automatic...
The change to Mercon LV occurred several years ago, and you can't get Ford's proprietary transfer case fluid (for which they never printed the specifications) at a Ford dealership parts counter. I am thinking that @FordTechOne probably has the low-down on this.
My dad was born in Superior, WY, and I grew up with his stories of Wyoming winters. The word "ferocious" comes to mind, so I understand your need for additional traction. But the GEN1 manual says to never use chains, so I'd love it if you would kindly walk us through your solution.

^^^Here is the product data sheet for Amsoil Signature Series Fuel-Efficient Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid. This is the stuff that's suitable for applications requiring Mercon LV.

The spec for my GEN1 is Mercon LV. Who knows...
