1) The stock springs are not progressive. They are linear. The progressive Geiser springs have farther spaced coils at the top which decreases spring rate and is “softer”.
2) Theoretically, the +3 will be an inch high unloaded and level with some weight in the bed. Although I have found this to...
Bought an SVC bypass rack and now need shocks. King is on back order for 3-5 months so looking for a used set. Need to be 3.0 or 3.5 18 inch travel bypasses. Preferably 4 tube but will settle for 3 tube.
I’m not surprised, as the superduty ECU provides boost control parameters stock as well as a greater degree of fuel and timing control because the diesels are obviously turbocharged from factory. As an aside, really cool truck though
Although it makes boost differently, at it’s core a turbo setup affects the engine no differently from a supercharger setup (besides the fact that a supercharger produces a parasitic loss). Air is getting forced into the engine in exactly the same way. I’ve had 1000 horsepower big turbo cars...
Absolutely upgrade the leaf springs. Not only will aftermarket leaf springs improve load carrying capability, but will greatly improve the ride as well. When I did my leaf springs it was a massive difference. I can’t speak to the deavers, but I have the icon springs and like them
You can’t flat tow all 4wd vehicles. They need to be designed for it i.e. have a neutral option on the transfer case itself, or have a computer setting to allow it to be towed. When you flat tow it, depending on truck make and model, you’re potentially engaging both driveshafts and axles with...
On a solid axle leaf spring vehicle, swapping a rear axle isn’t that hard and any good shop with off-road experience should really be able to do it, although some may not want to touch it...If you have a complete rear end with hubs, you could even do it yourself.
The heim doesn’t replace the uniball...the heim joints still have uniball, but instead of having polyurethane bushings where they mount to the frame they have heim joints
The ride on stock leaf springs was horrible, and has been horrible on every stock leaf spring truck I’ve ridden in. The rear end bucks too much with them. I meant it’s questionable as far as what is now popular. The in bed tire carriers are the “in” thing as far as looks.
I’ve seen that truck for sale. Questionable tire carrier but it seems like it’s decently clean. See if he’ll negotiate some. Gen 1’s aren’t that great stock. I had mine stock for 2 months and the ride off-road was so bad I refused to take it off pavement until I did shocks and leaf springs. The...
There are also a couple more types of systems. There’s haldex AWD (which most crossovers and AWD cars use) which is a front wheel drive system that uses a viscous coupling to send power to the rear wheels once the front wheels experience a given percentage of slip.
The systems are completely different and the Torsen front diff has nothing to do with what makes selectable 4wd and awd different. Full time 4wd functions almost exactly the same as awd but sounds more rugged for marketing purposes. Our trucks use a transfer case where as awd vehicles have a...
Looks like a solid deal but like previously mentioned, unless it was sitting in a warm garage, such low miles can be bad for it. But if a dealer or reputable shop inspects it, that would eliminate a lot of the worries. You also have to realize you’re essentially paying $55k for a supercharger...
Keep in mind that
A) Like other members mentioned, the stock raptor rear suspension (has a leaf removed over the F150) will result in less stable towing at speed due to sag. Although this can be mitigated somewhat by aftermarket leaf springs.
B) Because the super cab raptors are so much shorter...
I got a good deal on my Icon springs which is why I went with them, but the deavers have 3 more leaves which it seems would add to ride comfort as they can be more progressive. I bought the shackles because the rear end sat way too high with the icons and I needed to lower it enough to where I...
There is not “zero evidence”. On top of the pages upon pages of forum posts detailing gen 2 problems, I consulted friends that own dealerships prior to buying mine and found that they themselves had seen far more gen 2’s with powertrain failures than gen 1’s, including numerous near 100k with...
You can’t test drive 1 gen 1 and rule out ALL gen 1’s. Every single one will drive differently depending on small differences like when the control arm Ball joints and tie rods were replaced. Drive 5 and then decide. You’ll save 20k+ buying a gen 1, and you’ll have a truck that’s a hell of a lot...
Nice! What else do you have planned as far as mods? Leaf springs are an absolute game changer. Deaver plus 2’s will get you about stock height and on my truck, the icon springs sat about an inch high (without the add a leaf) before the camburg shackles.
