I am in the middle of a ****** situation. I live in the salt belt. I’m not an expert on cathodic protection either. I took my new 18 to the dealer to have undercoating sprayed to protect my new truck. I asked them to spray off the salt and calcium chloride that is spread on the roads here before they applied the coating. They DID NOT spray it off and just coated and sealed everything in. The guy who sold me the coating and warranty said it could be done at anytime, they would clean undercarriage before applying it. This is just the beginning!
They coated the control arms, skid plate, over spray on the shocks, and the bottoms of the doors as well as all the way to the roof. I’m ******* pissed!!!!!!!!
My question is will the salt and calcium chloride still rust the steel and oxidize the aluminum if it’s sealed in?????? I have received a refund for the sub par work “ sabotage “. I’m not sure this is enough!? They are having their top Detailer remove the overspray. Someone with knowledge of the cathodic protection please chime in.

If the CaCl2 and brine were already actively creating surface rust on the frame, by coating it, they have sealed it in there and it will continue to rust under the coating. Its the same as painting over a rusted spot, the rust will continue to propagate.

As for the shocks, control arms, and skid plate, you are going to be stuck with the coating on those.

Personally, I'd go to Ford's customer line and file a complaint. A refund isn't enough to fix this issue. I'm surprised your dealer even offered to do undercoating on it, I was told they couldn't because of the shocks and "uniqueness" of the Raptor. So I had to MPHD the frame myself.

Honestly, depending on your situation, I wouldn't have their "detailers" do anything. You should clay bar the truck and get it off yourself. They are going to half ass it and scratch the living shit out of the clear.

I will be filing a complaint with ford for sure. I just spoke with the GM and he was very rude, he also said he guys did nothing wrong by spraying over the salt. I’m withholding the dealer name for now.

This is one reason why I never go back to a dealer, except under warranty. They have screwed up oil changes, improperly fixed air conditioning, wanted to overcharge for parts, that I could see on line were 1/2 that price.

I go to a local Mikes guarage and he never over charges me.

This is just a few pics. They did remove spray from front shocks and skid plate during second visit. I spoke to the GM today and told him I wanted all of the spray removed, he said that his guys have been scrapping it off since last Thursday and he was about to re spray it. He got really upset that I didn’t want it re sprayed, I caught him in a lie! His guys never removed anything and were just going to spray it again and tell me they stripped it a washed the salt off. He was very rude to me! I did call the two guys that did the subpar work clowns. He stated it was just a mistake, I told him I now have a 70k rottbox because of his guys poor workmanship. I didn’t raise my voice or swear during the call, it was extremely hard. He hung up on my too! I contacted ford customer service and opened a case, I was told to expect a call from a ford regional rep. Now I wait

Shit situation, but the reality is you really should have known better than to take your truck to a dealer for this type of work. If you need to get work done that isn't in a service manual and beyond the scope of your warranty, there's no reason to visit the dealer service station. This type of job is best left to professionals who specialize in that sort of thing.
