@Rickmeister 100%, I heard someone else mention carfax too and I’m realizing that he likely didn’t do that regular of oil changes unfortunately. But it still made it to 172 surprisingly.
I’m a big fan of your maintenance methods, thanks for sharing. Glad to hear your 3.5eb lasted so long...
Thanks @roostinyfz, this aligns with what I’m seeing across my quotes. Dang, I was thinking the same thing for bigger engine - labor costs must’ve been a lot more to retrofit I guess?
I'm in central coast CA, shop is in San Luis Obispo, so rates aren't cheap. 195 /h at the dealer and local shop.
Got the dealer price back for new long block and turbos, no radiator and it was still Just under $21k. Got the local shop to reduce their cost enough and throw in diff/transfer case...
All this information is super helpful thank you. My turbos are original (172k mi) so makes sense to just swap those out. Nice the OEM motor comes with a 3 year warranty, but void if you go over 6k rpm, haha
How many miles on the new OEM so far?
@dillard09 wow, that seems like a really easy install then... Maybe a day or two?
So the engine didn't have a plastic oil pan? A metal one instead? I'm calling the dealer today to get more info and get their quote.
Thanks for posting this. Seems like the block is 4k instead of 7k... crazy if...
Dude new trucks are also so expensive and I’ve already dug myself into a hole. At least these trucks retain their value better…
Smart thing would be sell / trade the raptor and buy a basic truck but that’s no fun
@dillard09 thanks for all the info here! Just to clarify the long block was just the block without the oil pan and extra pieces? So you reused your parts for the previous engine?
@colticus, mind if I ask where in the US you're located? I'm thinking maybe central CA has inflated pricing?
This was all at a local shop - I'll call the dealer tomorrow for a quote.
Oh man that sucks. Any idea why the crankshaft came apart? Were you making some good power with the stage 2 forged?
That's what I'm thinking - they'll have the latest and greatest everything - still thinking about upgrading the oil pan from the plastic garbage but otherwise should be pretty...
@dillard09, what's the year/mileage of your truck when this happened? How many miles has it been since the work was done?
One of the main reasons they recommended a full rebuild was the mileage of the engine... I could risk just replacing the block but not sure If I'm going to run into issues...
@EricM Apparently since they're going OEM, Ford doesn't sell a Crate Motor so that's why they had to part out all the individual bits. From what I understand it's mostly for removal of old, then assembly of the new engine and putting it back in. That being said it still seems like a lot.
I will...
Posting a follow up thread here for new engine price...
