What is that, like less than 1/2 oz? If that much water got into my intake manifold i wouldnt give 2 ***** about it. You know some people actually inject water (and **** and mixes of the 2) on purpose into forced induction vehicles? It really helps with cooling and detonation (and **** or mixes of it can help with octane as well). This is not an issue at all. Nothing to see here folks, move along.
This IS actually problematic. Have you calculated how little water is needed to hydrolock this engine? It is not much... the Gen1 ecoboost crowd did the calculations and that is one of the reasons why they do the weep hole.
Second, you are correct that a water / **** system is good.... because it METERS a MIST to cool the air. What you get for condensate buildup in the ecoboost 3.5 is a puddle that is forced through under hard acceleration. This is your misfire and hydrolock.
you know itsPer https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compression_ratio
CR = ((pi/4)*b^2*s+CV)/CV
Per Ford 3.5L EcoBoost V-6 Specs, MY Changes, Service Info
CR=Compression Ratio = 10.5
b = bore = 3.64 in
s = stroke = 3.41 in
CV= Clearance Volume = Water to hydrolock cylinder
10.5 = (((pi/4)*13.249*3.41)+CV)/CV
10.5 = 35.485/CV + CV/CV
9.5 = 35.485/CV
CV = 35.485/9.5
CV = 3.73 ci of water or 2 fluid ounces
Feel free to check my work but it looks like you would be at a quarter of the capacity for hydrolock if you sucked all of that water into one cylinder. Divide .5 ounces by 6 and you have .0833 ounces which is 4% of the clearance volume per cylinder. Also assuming that the engine is rotating at 3000 rpm or ~50rps, if it took a second to suck that moisture in to the engine it would be divided again by 25 I'm guessing (intake valves open only on intake stroke) decreasing the amount of water to .003 ounces which is .15% of the clearance volume.
Installed intercooler last night and thought I would post a picture of condensation inside at time of removal. 4k miles on truck, 85-110 degrees weather, 10-20% humidity.
