If the accounting department has more influence than the marketing department, then they both have more influence than the engineering and design department, and the consumer has no voice or chance at all. Who asked for a Chevrolet Cavalier? It was a kluged-together nightmare with a front end borrowed from one model, a rear end borrowed from another, and a drive train borrowed from a third. The engineers didn't come up with that idea, nor die the buying public ask for it. Dollar signs drove that failed notion, and in the end it was dollar signs that killed it.

My mom and dad bought a 1982 Cavalier when they first came out. They traded a 74 Ford Maverick for it. I was only 10 at the time, but I remember my mom being impressed with the ability to do a u-turn on a 2 lane road. The maverick did not have power steering.

that car was a POS. They got rid of it in 1985 for a Pontiac Grand Prix.

I agree; Kinda like the Bronco II with the Mazda transmission. Wonder who's brainfart that was?
