Does anybody know what the VLT percentage is on the Raptor's windows that comes with the truck? They look pretty dark in most of the pictures I have seen. Just asking because I'm thinking of having them tinted at the dealer when it finally gets delivered. Thanks.

Most factory privacy glass will test around 18% with a tint meter. I put 20% on my 14' and it almost matched the rear windows perfectly.

Isn't that illegal in many states?

Depends. Some states allow close to 20 like 25% or so. I believe Texas and Oklahoma are both 25%. Its not really enforced too hard though unless they need some PC to stop you. 35% is the legal limit in Kansas but honestly from a distance a good quality 35% and a good quality 20% are hard to differentiate. If you're not running 5% like a ******** or doing anything stupid you more than likely won't get messed with. I know tons of guys out here in California that are running 20% or even darker with no issues and out here you're not allowed to really have anything on your front two windows that is worth having. It all comes down to the officer.

I usually just go to the tint shop and tell them to match the rest of the truck. I've been told that it's illegal and that they can't give me a receipt. They also usually ask that I pay in cash. No big deal to me. Never been pulled over for tint in my life or heard of anyone that I know pulled over.

My friend bought a Corvette that came from Florida and had really dark tint. He got pulled over here in Ohio for it. The cop talked to him on the drivers side first, then walked around to the passenger side. He told my friend "your girlfriend has a bright white shirt on inside of a black interior and I can't see her at all through this side window." Gave him a ticket, which was dropped once he got the tint removed. It wasn't a big deal since the tint was bubbling and he intended to replace it anyways. He got the ticket dropped with the old tint removed, then went and got it re-tinted later that day, although he went with the typical 20% instead of whatever limo stuff was on it before. No problems since.

Yeah, I think as long as you don't go crazy you should be okay. Here in Arkansas, the cops don't seem to be too concerned about it. Other states, I hear, may be different.

I have been pulled over a few times for tint here in Maryland. And never was anything extreme. So I just don't run aftermarket tint anymore.

In Missouri the law is 35% on the fronts. It used to be nothing was allowed on the front. I ran 5% all around when I was younger (got stopped and ticketed a lot). I now run 20% on the fronts of all of my vehicles. It almost perfectly matches the rears of any factory tint. I've only bean stopped once by HP leaving Lake of the Ozarks after a Holiday weekend. And to be honest, he was just looking for a reason to stop me. He originally said he stopped me because of my tinted license plate cover on the back (even though he was on the other side of the highway facing me). He had to get a meter to tell that the windows were to dark. 20% is usually pretty safe.
