I have a Warn model 8274 that I got from my Grandfather who recently passed away. It's got about 100fit of 1/4" aircraft cord on it that looks to be in really good condition. It's terminated with a 3" hook. I plan on replacing the termination with something better. I'm wondering if it will fit inside the front grill on my truck. I took note of the model number when inventorying items at his house. I plan on picking it up this weekend and doing some more research between now and then to see what I need to get it installed. I'd like to install it behind the grill in the space in front of the radiators.
I'd previously looked at this plate to mount a wince on.

Does anyone have experience with mounting this particular winch model in a Raptor? Total newbie here with winch stuff, looking for some guidance.

It's got aircraft cable on it, I think it's 1/4" but it might be 5/16'". It's big stuff! I'll measure it when I get back over there. The specs say it's rated to 8000LBS - !2V DC. It calls for a 70Amp/Hr battery, don't know if we have these in our trucks or not.

Seems a lot of people in the jeep and fj community run this winch. very reliable and fast line speed. 8000 pound winches are better suited for jeeps. that's what I have on my jeep.

That is a tall, boxy winch. I think you will have some problems getting it mounted and not have it right up against the radiator. All of the winches I have seen mounted in a Raptor mount below the radiator behind the grille in the bumper.

Totally agree. The general consensus for a winch is 1.5 x loaded vehicle weight. For a Raptor, that is about 6500 lbs (or more) which puts you right at a 10,000 lb winch rating.

Anything deeper than about 6.75" will not fit using the RC or most mounts that fit behind a stock bumper. The 8274 is about 8.5" deep, you could remove the A/C condenser to make it fit, depends on your priorities. My advise would be keep the 8274 for another project or sell it and buy a 10K-12K rated winch that will fit. The DV-12 light, Warn Industries - Jeep, Truck & SUV Winches: VR10000 and Warn Industries - Jeep, Truck & SUV Winches: VR12000 all fit nicely with the RC mount and better fit the needs of a Raptor.
