[QUOTE="BigJ, post: 80217, member: 62"] No Sir. However I am a sort of student of history, so I am aware of it and its effects. :waytogo: I'm not sure I follow you here. For your analogy to be applicable, we'd have to be talking about the price of electricity/natural gas to feed the home, not the home itself. Right? Assuming that's what you meant... Whoa. Someone who buys a Raptor because they "want" it is, presumably, using disposable income to buy it with. And that person is not going to be concerned with the price of gas, much like a Ferrari owner doesn't concern themselves with the price of gas (or repairs hah!) If you're talking about the buyer who "needs" it, then MPG may be a factor, but I suggest there are far more important factors you're ignoring. I can explain them, but they really depend on 'who' the buyer is we're talking about here, and since I'm not clear who it is you're talking about, I won't guess. Either way, lets presume your prediction comes true. Today a gallon of gas runs $4 in my neighborhood. That $4 will take the Raptor owner 11.5 miles, and the FX4 owner 16.9 miles (using your numbers which seem really really skewed in favor of the FX4, but for the sake of argument...). Or in other words, the FX4 owner can go around 38% further than the Raptor owner, or in other words the Raptor owner needs to spend around $5.50 to go the same distance. That's a difference of $1.50. Now if I understand your argument, you're saying the Raptor owner is happy with that today, but they won't be four years from now when gas prices are at $6/gal. Do the math and that means the Raptor owner (four years from now) will spend around $8.30 to go the same distance the FX4 owner goes for $6. The Raptor owner spends $2.30 more. Subtract that from the original $1.50 they were happy to pay and we get a difference of around 80cents per gallon. So if you're right, in 4 years the Raptor owner is spending something around $20 per fillup more than the FX4 and that $20 difference has put them "under water". That $20 makes them no longer want the truck, and it makes them regret when they suspended common sense to buy it in the first place. Really? $20 per fill up in your predicted 4 year future based on seemingly really skewed MPG numbers to start with anyway? I dunno. 4 years from now I'm sure a cup of coffee will run $10, so just skip it a few times a month and all is well in the world again, no? :) In my opinion, your argument is no reason to choose one truck over the other and the math bares that out. In my opinion, that's really a silly argument to make. In my opinion, its worth taking a chance and/or ultimately spending that $20 to enjoy the Raptor for the next four years. And even so, I'd be very surprised to find out that $20 more per fill up forced a Raptor owner to park it, whereas that same owner would still be driving if only they'd chosen an FX4 four years prior.
