I there a reliable, accurate and credible guide of what makes a Raptor different from a regular F-150?

Yes, I've seen the videos, read the threads. It's hard to put it all together, especially when there seems to be disagreement on some things. I would imagine there is some "secret sauce" elements that Ford may not make public, but I'm looking for good info, not marketing spin. The interviews threads with SVT engineers where interesting, but is there one spot one could go to become "educated" on what makes a Raptor a Raptor?

Help the newb out... :)

1. Ford in the grill
2. The fox shocks
3 the graphics

That's it well and if you want a kickass one use e-30 in it.

Isn't this similar to asking what makes a girl a girl?

It has been engineered to perform a function that other f-150's cannot perform in their stock state.

Its the inter workings... I mean the suspension and body work is cool, but what really makes a Raptor a Raptor is Off-Road mode, Sport Mode, Hill Decent, Traction Control... and the ability to control them. You also have truck apps that show incline and angle of your truck, temperature, etc...

Power in a f150 raptor only 6.2 yes it can be in a f250 but that is the point. You can't get a 6.2 in any other f150
My other observations was smartassed but true.

  • Fox shocks
  • Rear springs
  • Wheels/Tires
  • Upper and lower control arms
  • Wide rear axle
  • Front bumper
  • Skidplates
  • Painted Rear bumper
  • Glass Front fenders
  • Glass Hood
  • Grille
  • Instrument Cluster
  • Aux switches w/ custom logo
  • Off-road Mode
  • Hill-Descent mode
  • Front Torsion Differential (2012+)
  • ECU Programming (e.g., ability to lock rear axle in 2wd / high speed)
  • Reinforced rear frame (2013+)
  • Seat graphics
  • Various colors
  • Optional hood/bedside graphics
  • Logos
  • Availability of short bed + SuperCab (not available on any other F-150 after MY'09).

Short version: what makes a Raptor a Raptor is all the stuff on a F-150 that everyone on FRF desperately wants to remove and replace on their truck with aftermarket parts, except for the grille and graphics.

So a Raptor is a grille and graphics.

All 2011+ F150's with the LCD info screen have the off road truck apps. Hill Decent was added to 2013+ FX4's and 4x4's with the 4x4 Off-Road Package and 2012+ could lock the rear diff in 2wd but only up to 20 mph. But otherwise yes, one of the biggest differences is Off-Road Mode and the different TC settings that ORM enables, and for the first couple years, the exclusivity of Hill Decent and locking the diff in 2wd.

The 6.2 was brought into some of the other F150 trims in 2012. Only reason you don't see too many is because most dealers aren't stocking them other than on the Raptor.
