I had the volant cai installed today and I have a few questions for more informed minds. First off I would like to point out that I was not expecting the noise levels to be so high...hope the neighbours don't kick up a fuss...

1. I currently am not running the ram air scoop. Should I put a cap on the extra hole to prevent it drawing in hot air from under the hood?

2. I am getting some vibrations on the peddle when I hit the gas. Is that normal/expected?

3. When I off-road (mainly soft sand) I envisage I will be putting on a pre-filter. However how would one clean out the filter box of any debris?

4. In terms of the ram air scoop, is the install easy enough? Is it worth ordering or will it just suck in too much sand that is in the air here (Dubai)? It is generally fairly dusty around even in the city (sand and construction dust). However I do like the idea of pulling in real good air.

Thanks in advance for your help.

On a side note the breather hose that was shipped has a kink in it so I think I will be needing to cut a new piece. Is that a common problem? Will I be fine driving with the kink until I can get some new pipe?

So I run in a bit of a muddy environment on the east coast. Definitely get the pre-filter. Next I capped the hole for the ram air scoop. I have had my engine swallow a bit of water to much for my taste. I plan on routing the intake area up through the fender close to the svt flare to prevent more water.

I have also heard of some issues with the ram air and clearance on the newer models with The stock HID lights.

Good luck.

I have the Corsa (basically a rebadged Volant) and had some of the same vibration and "shudder" issues you describe.

Are you tuned? If not, that will help. Mine changed significantly once I went that route.

Secondly, check and make sure your intake housing is not rubbing against the coolant tank right next to it. If it is, or if it's even close, wedge a piece of thermal pipe insulation into the gap, which will soak up any vibrations during acceleration.

YES, put a plug over the ram-air hole, if you don't you will be sucking the air from under the hood, Homedepot, or lowes, 3" pipe plug

I installed the Volant with Ram Air Scoop and Pre-Filter.

It was a challenge to install the scoop, very tight fit, and of course the directions are not human friendly.

The pre-filter will keep water, dust and whatever else may come in through the hole in the side of the box or the air scoop off the power core filter. It would take a lot of force to get anything heavier than dust and water spray from the air scope opening all the way up and into the box.

Any water/condensation/spray will drain back out the scoop opening or back out the main air inlet opening back into the wheel well. The bottom of the stock box will hold more water/dust in its bottom than the Volant.

In my opinion (each to their own!), I don't see any extra hot air getting pulled in through the hole with forward motion, the air coming in through the grille, up from underneath the bumper and behind the head light and then out the two vents in the top of the hood and assume the side vents and wheel well, all conspire against hot air getting pulled backwards against this flow and into your box.

Double check nothing is touching other parts to help reduce vibration sounds, check the long tube is rotated so it's not sitting on top of the engine or electrical connectors. Same for coolant tank rubbing against the brake fluid reservoir. I put a doubled over piece of hose wrap underneath the coolant reservoir and the Volant mounting bracket. Just lift up on the edge of the coolant reservoir nearest the engine and you can slide this "wedge" underneath, it will unbind the two reservoirs.

As noted in other reply, the tune helped with the sound/vibration issues.

The gasket under the box lid is very thin, recommend adding another layer of weather stripping to get a better lid seal. Volant only uses four screws in each corner to hold the lid down, which causes the middle edges to bow up preventing a good seal. I tried different tightening and the like, but another layer of weather strip does the trick.

I have the volant setup with the ram scoop. 'IMO,' I feel the ram scoop helps. I really don't find the setup to be really loud, like some have claimed. The sound seems to be drowned out by MT tires. :) I will say this, prior to installing the 5* tune I did feel more of a vibration in the pedal. After the tune was installed not so much. All I hear now is deep rumble when I step on it. All in all, I think it is a sweet setup. Get a tune for sure it is sooooo worth it.

The vibration you feel in the pedal is a resonance vibration, tuning does help as it dials in everything and reduces the resonance that causes the vibration feel. I had the same thing happen on mine. That being said, just about any truck out there will increase noise with an aftermarket intake. Once you remove the stock resonator at the throttle body, all bets are off regardless of the brand or style of the intake used, they will all be louder.

I have the Volant and do not have the ram air scoop installed and I used a 4" plumbing test plug to plug the scoop hole on the front of the intake. It works really well.

On my Volant System I really wanted the better Donaldson filter any additional power was just a bonus. It was LOUD and vibrated the interior panels with a tune installed. Started playing around and put the stock upped resonator tube back on and added the front ram air tube. Both of these have a effect on the ammount of noise in the cabin.
I tow and could not deal with the noise for 4 hours, now it is as quiet as stock just cruising but has a nice growl when your on it

I've noticed the vibration too but ONLY when I first start stepping on the gas. If I let off and then step on it again you can only feel it for a second or so. To me it feels like the CAI burping? lol

As far as sound increase, I can only hear the CAI when it does the vibration but that's it. I guess I'll be looking to get a 5* tune in the near future.
