If you remove the turbos from the HOEB, how much power will it make on its own? Less then 300.... or even 250....???
Its not just the sound. Its the whole personality of the truck. If Toyota put a v8 in Prius, how would it feel? Actually here is what my common sense tells me, looking at the latest automotive industry trends, or standards, first thing they decided to do is make everything disposable, 1 year life, like they did in mobile phones. Secondly, every year comes a new model, or in increased hp number in cars case. So what they are doing is saving the v8 for later. So 1st Gen was 411 hp, 2 Gen is 450, 3rd Gen will be like 510 or 520, and that's it for the HOEB. That's pretty much the limit if they have to offer some little reliability and warranty, then they will start with a v8, 4th Gen 600 hp, supercharged or turbo, 5th gen 650 hp, u get the point. Look at whats happening with mustangs and dodge challengers, or iphones or laptops, now i hate this spec war, limiting the product life and reliability to a year. THIS WHOLE WAR IS ONLY BENEFITING THE MANUFACTURERS take your money without you even realising it. And folks these days, they don't think of products life in terms of 10 years or 20 years.
Of course if you take the turbos out of the HOEB it would put out less power, that maybe one of the dumbest things I’ve seen posted on here. And yes every generation Raptor will be more powerful, but more likely it will be via electric motors in combination with FI engines, not with large displacement NA engines. It’s just the way things are progressing overall.

I would have gladly paid a gas guzzler tax for a v8 raptor, ford knows this as every single gt350 owner and every gt500 owner is happy to pay the same gas guzzler tax.

I have serious doubts as to ford bringing out a v8 raptor ever again. I do hope yall keep talking about it for other reasons. :)
FWIW I would love a super charged V8 Raptor. That would be a game changer IMO. But I have no interest in a NA V8 for the Raptor since there is nothing out there that can our preform the HOEB unless it gets 12 MPG.

In A Theory of Cognitive Dissonance (1957), Leon Festinger proposed that human beings strive for internal psychological consistency to function mentally in the real world. A person who experiences internal inconsistency tends to become psychologically uncomfortable and is motivated to reduce the cognitive dissonance, by making changes to '''''''justify'''''''' the stressful behavior, either by adding new parts to the cognition causing the psychological dissonance or by avoiding circumstances and contradictory information likely to increase the magnitude of the cognitive dissonance

So, you're saying the turbochargers on the 3.5 and corporate greed are creating internal inconsistency in you're noggin, justifying your stressful typing. Or were you referring to me? Smoke a bowl or something.

If you remove two cylinders from the V8 how much power will it produce? Dumb question right? Why would you remove the turbos?

Your v6 truck sounds like a lawnmower and it really doesn’t get much better gas mileage. If at all.

Trucks aren’t fast anyway. Who cares about 0-60 in a pickup?

The whole reason this thread exists is because dudes with v6 turbos are worried no one will want their trucks if Ford drops a real engine in the new model. Their insecurities are justified.

People won’t trade in just for sound. Gen 3 v8 will be an all around better truck. Still, it’ll be a huge relief they no longer have to accept the v6 compromise no one ever wanted in the first place.

I’ve had my trolling fun for a while. It’s too easy and people are so sensitive about their little engine.

There’s no replacement for... you know the rest.

Except your displacement has less torque, less HP and worse MPG. Only a fool would trade that off for sound. If the Gen 3 is all around better and includes a V8 I'll be the first to applaud but as it stands now the V6 is superior in every way measurable than the V8 was in previous models. It's silly to want to give it all up for sound but it's your money and spending it foolishly is certainly your prerogative. This thread is questioning weather our trucks will suffer value if a V8 is released and my position is that unless it brings something more to the table than sound then no...only a fool would think so.

This thread gives me a headache. It's not that complicated, economics 101 supply and demand. Here is a couple scenarios of what could happen.

1. Ford makes a low production V8 raptor in 2021. Prices for those will be top dollar, but since it will be a low production truck, won't effect the V6 Gen2 much if anything. V6 raptor still an awesome truck for 99% of people and will depreciate at its current rate it is now.

2. Ford makes a high production V8 Raptor. Probably about 1/4-maybe 1/2 tops, of current raptor owners trade in their current truck whether its a Gen1 or Gen2 for new V8 model. Prices depreciate slightly more than they are currently but not much. Gen 2 V6 still an awesome truck that many people would want used.

3. Ford doesn't make a V8 Gen2 ( which is 99% most likely going to happen). They keep the V6 in their Gen 3 Raptor. Current Gen 2s depreciate like normal and life goes on.

People forget these are toys, nobody buys a raptor because its practical. If you want a car that will not depreciate much no matter what new models come out and is practical, go buy a honda or kia or something. You buy a raptor because its a bad ass toy, and news flash, toys go down in value because everybody wants the newest, baddest toy. You want to talk about depreciation? My Mclaren 570s brand new sticker price was $228k, I picked it up 3 months after it was delivered as a demo car with 1,000 miles on it. Picked it up from the dealer for $180k. Thats $48k depreciation after 3 months and 1,000 miles. Still comes with all the perks of a new car and warranty and everything.

So to sum up my thoughts, regardless of what happens if Ford makes a new V8 model or not, your Gen2's value will be fine. Its a bad ass truck that is VERY desirable on the used market that almost everybody would want no matter what happens. End of story.

I’ve heard a stock gen 2 at full throttle on a public road and it sounded like a civic with an ebay exhaust. I see it makes more hp/tq and has a bit better mpg but the 6.2 sound over that weedwaker engine I’d take any day. For a 60k truck I want everything including the sound I’ll hear all day driving it. I think a third gen needs to go back to a V8 and I’m sure you’ll see the gen 2 owners posting theirs for sale. Value may diminish a tad. I want to hear of longevity of a gen 2 engine. Someone with a lot of miles talk about the maintenance they have had to do both big and small to keep the engine going. I think someone posted a gen 1 with over 250 k miles and still running strong. I think the engine may be to new in the gen 2 raptor to tell long term reliability. Either way both current generations visually look great imo. Wish I didn’t have to sell my gen 1. It’s still posted for anyone looking :)

Ps I’ll be in Vegas 7/3-7/7 and renting a 570s to take to Mt Charleston and a 911 GT3 RS to take to Red rock Canyon. Super stoked as I have never nor would ever come close to being able to own/drive either one of these vehicles.

I am holding off until 2020 for a Raptor SCAB. Like most potential buyers I could care less if a V8 is offered down the road. 16-17 mpg and 450hp are a perfect combo in my opinion. I just want Ford to address the VCT and cam phasers once and for all on the Raptor 3.5L EB engine. I don’t want to be stuck with a $4000 repair bill when the truck is out of warranty. I can see a class action lawsuit coming down the road.

exactly! my 13 EB went through cam phasers 4 times and 1 timing chain, the 17 Raptor needed cam phasers in the first 30k. I was lucky with the 13 EB that when they started to go the final time I gave the truck to the wife to trade in on her Jeep SRT and the dealer didn't even notice lol.

there is ZERO reason why Ford hasn't addressed this issue.

Yeah long term reliability is still a question on the V6, but I don't see why it wouldn't be durable! Technology is so good in todays world, there is no reason this motor shouldn't be good for the long haul. I mean, it is just a V6 with some turbos on it (Obviously slightly more complex than that but you get what I'm saying). No reason they shouldn't last less than 200k miles in my opinion (As long as the motor has been maintained properly and not beat to death). Sound is not the best yes, but if someone doesn't want the V6 simply because of the way it sounds rather than its performance, then that's their loss! The motor hauls butt.

And have fun with that 570s! Thing is a rocket. Make sure to drive the powertrain in "dynamic mode". It changes the way the car drives completely!
