Hi all. What dynamic braking methods do you use?
1. Switch from D to M and control the engine speed from the brake pedal?
2. Leave the lever in D and use the Tow/Haul button at the base of the lever? (here, if you touch the foot brake repeatedly, the computer lowers the gears very quickly and the engine speed increases very much, uncontrollably...)
3. Do you use the foot brake exclusively?
---------
Can the repeated and very frequent switching of the engine brake, wear or damage the gearbox?

Using the engine/trans to slow the truck in the ways you described will not hurt it at all.

In fact, the heavy vacuum generated during engine breaking is good for "exercising" the ring package, which helps prevents them from sticking on really high mileage engines.

Thanks for the answer, I use the Tow/Haul button very often, but when I make long descents, it reduces the gears so much that the engine reaches very high revs (4000-5000 rpm), I always have to be careful that the engine does not exceed a certain speed (4000 rpm, for example). Is there an optional setting to limit the engine speed when the Tow/Haul function is activated?

I switch to manual and go to a lower gear. However, I’ve noticed that my 2020 sometimes does not provide significant engine braking when going to a lower gear. When it does this, the info screen shows that it’s not shutting off fuel (AFR ~14:1). I typically go back to drive, hit the gas and then try again. That usually sorts it out (AFR exceeds 22:1). For a while I was thinking it was trying to keep the engine warm but it’s now just looking like a bug.

When getting off the highway, or slowing downhill, I almost always downshift. At 30k miles, my brake pads/rotors are like new still.

Ummmm what engine brake? This ain’t a diesel

Now Badgertits(can’t say just t*ts?), you know what the fella is talking about. In fact, engine braking is a BIG deal in 4-stroke motorcycles such that the amount, with manually closed throttle obviously, is adjustable by the rider via electronics. As in low, medium, high.
