Anyone change out their true dual system mufflers with Dynomax VT mufflers? I actually bought these to see how this "drone free" system works with the SW headers and true dual setup. Drone's been bad, and though I can handle it for the most part, the wife and kid can't. So i dropped a few bucks to see how these work. I also got some CC inserts to try out with the current STubes and see how the sound is and if the drone / resonance gets cleared up.

I was at KHC and was going to have Dave fab up a custom exhaust / y pipe for me, but based on some of my future mods that had to get put on hold for the moment. As a second option, the guys were going to weld up 2 vibrant resonators put in place of the STube mufflers. Since I figured i'd probably change it out for the custom job in the next few months, I figured if I can remedy the issue in the short term with something I can easily swap if I didn't like it would be more ideal, so I chose the Dynomax route. I keep hearing good things about them, but we'll see (only issue I see is the use of 409 vs 304 stainless). Once I get them in, I"ll post some video.

On a side note, I was very impressed with KHC. Dave was very responsive and didn't push anything on me. He responded to texts throughout the day and answered all my questions. Don was great to deal with as well and always kept me in the loop, took my calls and answered all my questions without issue...and I'm a huge pain in the ass sometimes. All this, and all I had done was have my headers and exhaust checked out for leaks and tightened up. Nothing crazy, but first impressions are important and they'll certainly get my business in the future. Prices were definitely reasonable as well.

It just so happens I have full kooks exhaust to a dynomax vt muffler on mine! Absolutely love it. Very little to no drone. It is quiet as a mouse when you are not on the gas pedal. When you get on it, it sounds great. Rally controls the noise. I have it for the exact reason you are describing. I also have a SC, so it really controls the noise. There is more whine from the sc, than drone from the exhaust. I have heard sw is quite loud. Hope that helps.

Nice! Thanks for giving me a heads up. I'm curious how it's going to sound with the X pipe vs the Y Pipe and dual mufflers. I may try both setups and use the CC inserts and S Tubes and see how it sounds. I'm thinking if the drone is minimal it may be my setup when i'm not taking long trips and just swapping the Dynomax VT when I'm in for the long haul. Sounds like you had a positive experience with it. I'm assuming you just clamped it in or did you weld it up? I was originally thinking to go magnaflow but there was now guarantee the drone would die down. the SW is loud as shit, it's beastly, but not everyone is a fan lol...

so i got the dual mufflers installed along with the CC inserts (placed at front of X Pipe). One thing i neglected to take account of is that Dynomax mufflers are all notched (inlets & outlets), meaning you need to cut the notched ends of the pipes you have or order their pipe connector, along with any additional clamps so i can put in the exit pipes by weeks end.

in the interim, i drove around town, gunned it onto the highway and revd the engine where i could. the sound is very nice, clean, but loud when you're on it...louder than stock but nothing like the S Tubes. The header noise is still there...the drone and resonance...GONE! I was skeptical but there is 0 drone in the cab...that or I'm deaf, but at cruising speeds there was no drone and at high rpms there was no drone. in between of course, nothing. i'll try and get some video by weeks end when i get my additional parts in. so far i'm pretty impressed, but I want to get those exit pipes in and see if there's any noticeable difference.

Very Cool! I bet the pipes will help push the noise out, and probably sound a little "cleaner" if that makes sense. Isn't no drone a beautiful thing? Keep us posted and post a video of the sound if possible.

definitely. once i get those pipes in i'll put up a video. no drone is great...so much better. the sound is definitely smooth and clean when i get on it, a little flat but not bad at all...not as high pitched as the STubes (though i do miss them a little)

so i was able to get in the connection pipe and test things out...super quiet when you add in the tail pipes...stock sounding really. gunning you it you get a nice loud, but not obnoxious vrmmm (no other way to describe it i guess). unfortunately, with the tails in, the hanger locations are way off with the sw hangers. I was going to just use some stainless steel wire ties in the interim (which actually kept everything nice and tight surprisingly) but i was not able to fit my spare in. wouldn't give a shit really about the spare but i'm going down to NC with the family and need all the bed space i can get. so i took down the tails and essentially "dumped" the exhaust under the bed before the axle....can't call it a true dump since it just looks like cutup straight pipes. although the exhausts are great, i'm pissed both the outlet and inlet were notched. welding it wasn't really an option for me either....oh well...at least the sound was right where i needed it to be....i think my next step is changing out the x pipe for a y pipe and adding in the ford racing exhaust. haven't heard this setup with headers though, curious how it might sound.

Interesting. I think the y-pipe will help. Do you want lots of exhaust report or not? Middle? I love my Dynomax VT muffler. It was suggested to me by racing guys. Pretty quiet on idle, but sounds great when you get on it. I will try to send a video.

Looking forward to the video. It did sound great...absolutely loved the sound and how quiet it was in the cab. Only thing that disappointed me was the outlet being notched along with the inlets. The inlets were fine since that's how my SW mufflers were. I know some companies allow you to choose notched inlets or outlets. I double checked the site hoping I was wrong but doesn't look like the case. Really wish I was wrong
