I won't get in an argument here on safety in Mexico, I know that there are a lot of places in Mexico that I wouldn't dream of going, Juarez, Nuevo Laredo, Tijuana. But there are places in the United States I wouldn't feel comfortable going either. However, there are quite a few places on the Baja peninsula that I feel safer than I do at home. Great people who are willing to help you do anything. We leave our gear in the back of the truck at night with no problems, give rides to guys who have been walking across the desert for 3 days because they had to ride a horse across the peninsula to sell it, then walk back.
Locals have invited us into their homes, and have shared meals with us for no good reason. Think of the last time that a complete stranger has asked you into their home for dinner, without trying to peddle some pyramid scam or other typical BS on you?
I won't argue for the entire country of Mexico, but Baja is something that needs to be seen, it is simply amazing. The human spirit, the terrain, the beauty, its just amazing.
You know what... On second thought, its really dangerous down there, no one should go... Ya thats it, the masses need to stay away from that place...
There is absolutely NO There's a reason that tens of thousands of people are fleeing Mexico's cities and the major, tourist spots are now more akin to ghost towns than the vibrant tourist traps of years past. Take a look at Avenida Revolucion in Tijuana.. absolutely dead, stores closed, no traffic, no bars, no music, nada.

Which Major Tourist spots? I have visited the Yucatan and the Baja this year, and they were both booming. The border towns have suffered, but that's because that is where most of the violence is. And I don't know the last time you have tried to get into our out of Mexico through Tijuana but the traffic is so bad that its a few hour wait each direction. Ghost town.
My suggestion is, don't buy into all the media hype, its just like anywhere else, don't be places that you know you shouldn't be (aka boys town at 2 am), and keep your wits about. I go down there with a group of guys that go at least 4 times a year and have been doing to since the early ninties. They have never had a violent conflict whatsoever. Sure it could happen, hell it could happen in the US too.
end rant.
Group of kids that came to visit while we were having some free welding done at a shop in San Juanico. About 20 of em got in line and I let them sit in one of the prerunners.
Visiting some of our friends at a Rancho near our pit. These guys came out and insisted in trading us rides on their horses for Raptor rides. (I think they got the better end of the deal)
