I haven't read through all 28 pages, but has anyone moved from the 5star sct tune to svc's tune? and what are your thoughts?

well i had the 5 star tune on my 10' raptor and will be getting the SVC tune on my 13' but i wont have a back to back comparison. i do know i was only about 50% happy with the 5 star when i had it. the responsiveness was great but the shifting and the other random quirks added up to frustration over time with the 5 star.

Yeah, I'm happy with certain features of the 5star, but there are some things that I worry are unfixable due to the dbw and the nannies that wont turn off. Unfortunately I don't think you can compare the tune on your 10 to the new tune on your 13 as most people have said the older trucks are a little faster due to lack of nannies. (I have a 13 as well)

I am moving from the 5 star on my 12 to the SVC tune. I'll have the SVC on next week,

on the 5 star things I like:

1. off road throttle response and gear holding
2. snappiness of shifts

things I don't like:

1. on road throttle response - it's the same as off road, but you can really kill yourself in parking lots, and god forbid you let a valet get behind the wheel
2. gas mileage - I'm stuck at 9.7 city and 11.4 highway. I pulled the tune and am running stock right now, and am already back up to 12 city.
3. throttle up on startup - revs really high on startup, then almost dies when I put into gear and idle out of the garage.


I'll have a head to head here soon.

I have. I decided to keep the SVC tune. I felt it was more balanced.

The advantage of 5Star is you have three tunes, Economy, Performance and Towing. I didn't try the towing, but the differences between Economy and Performance were noticeable. I preferred the shift strategy of the Economy. And the 5Star Performance tune made my Raptor "twitchy", and I mean that as a compliment. It was like the engine wanted to bust out. You had to be careful pressing the accelerator.

The SVC tune only has one flavor. It is supposed to react to your accelerator press in the same way the stock tune does - press hard you get performance, press lightly and you get a more sedate response. And this is true for the most part. My SVC tune is hanging on to 5th gear a little longer than I would have liked (I like the 5Star Economy tune and the stock tune on how quick it shifts into 6th when coasting), but other than that, it seems very reliable.

The SVC tune will require you to adjust the global spark if you intend to run 87 or 93 octane gas rather than choose a whole different tune (like 93 Performance, 87 Performance, etc.). You will also need to know the rotations per mile of your tire size so you can make sure the speedometer is properly calibrated to your tire size, but thr 5Star I believe is the same. I miss the old SuperChips tuner where you could just pick an octane and a tire size, but that is a minor thing. Overall the SVC tune make the Raptor very responsive to your foot. I like it a lot. Not sure how guys who prefer the 5Star Performance tune will like it, as I do not think it is as aggressive, but I don't like that aggresiveness, at least not for daily driving which was a priority for me. YMMV.

This, of course, is my $0.02 and I am not an expert or a racer or a mechanic or anything like that. Just a dude with a Raptor.

Anybody notice a higher idle with SVC tune? Is that something I can change with the live wire? I tried but maybe I missed the option? Thats my only complaint really. Especially a cold start up it really barks. I would like it a bit quieter to be courteous to my neighbors as I leave early some days.

Yes, they upped the idle RPM in their tune. Email them if you don't want that and they'll send you a tune without that "feature". I did, and I'm back to 600rpm while parked idling. Gas is too expensive to be wasting it... ;)

I was under the impression you only had to change the octane levels when going lower than 91?

My idle went down a little bit from what I could tell. And my shake the whole house and hurt my eardrums morning starts went away with the svc tune.

some silly questions:

-do you need a CAI with the SVC tune?
-is 91 oct fine? (cant get anything higher reliably here)
-is there any "high altitude" settings? or does that matter? my truck runs at 3400 ft and only goes higher

Send me an email and I will return idle back to stock! Some love it and some aren't a fan. Easy fix

You are perfectly fine without a CAI, you can run any octane you choose, the tune is preset for 91.
The tune will automatically adapt to the higher altitude the same way your stock tune would.
