SPORT MODE SUCKS

Do you guys use sport mode, regularly? I'm unimpressed with the results. It's almost embarrassing when using sport mode in traffic. The shift points are pushed way out, not smooth transitions. I found when in Manual shift mode its slightly better (at best) but overall not impressed with the results. My 17 F150 EB was the same.

The shifts are pushed out a lot and they are not smooth, but FWIW I find that to be true of most vehicles what have a sport mode. My M6 drove the same way (to the extant that an M6 can be like a Raptor) in sport mode as well, it held onto gears long and the shifts were not as smooth. I don't put my truck into sport mode in Traffic, just can't see the benefit of it. Now with minimal traffic or on open road the performance increase in sport mode is very noticeable.

I was mostly being a smartass, but I didn't buy mine to be a pavement princess. I bought it for the comfortable ride at a decent speed on less than ideal roads. I can't even get to my house without a half mile of dirt road that might get attention from the county once a year. It wasn't built for stop and go traffic on asphalt, but WTFO on dirt, maybe.

Sport mode does not suck...it behaves the way a proper sport mode should. You have to remember, this truck is not designed to be the pavement princess most of us use it for.

If you are on a track (dirt or pavement), the last thing you want to happen is for the truck to shift gears on you mid corner. That kind of stuff sends you off into the barrier. So "sport" mode is working like it should. The problem is most people (me included) use sport mode in situations that really you should just be in normal.

In regards to manual shifting. that is basically worthless. 3 second delays between input on the paddle and the gear shift taking place = missed shifts and bouncing off the rev limiter. Now that is embarrassing.

If you were in the dirt and running hard you would love sport mode. It keeps your “R’s”up so you don’t have the tranny searching through the gears so much. I’m sure you know this so why are you complaining about your truck working as designed? Wrong environment for sport mode. You want a more responsive throttle get a peddle commander or tune.

i use it a lot, harsh sometimes but its supposed to be. it keeps you right where you want to be with spirited driving and the downshifting works nice.

Yep. What the above members said. If ya don't like the harsh shifts leave it in normal mode.

I'm mostly at Potanipo in Brookline NH (home field), but always go up to the Back Lake shoot out. Good times.
