We drove from Corpus to Port Mansfield a couple of summers ago, and we went to spi and drove up to Port Mansfield in February. Really fun and pretty (other than the trash) down there. Way different than our dry West Texas area north of Abilene.

Been to SPI many times. Love the island and the beach. Went during spring break (Texas Week) one time and then to the beach the day after....... they were using a front-end loader with a a rake attachment to clean up all of the trash left behind. DISGUSTING!!! A real shame as it is one of the best drive-on beaches around; miles of solitude.
