Skid plate Q&A — I have questions if you have answers.

The title says it all.

I’m doing a bit of an overhaul of my truck. One of the things I noticed, living in the NE is that I have some surface rust on the under belly skids. I want to go aluminum.

RCI metalworks and Foutz are my top contenders. Anyone have either and can comment?

Foutz looks like you can’t drain the oil without pulling the skid plate off. I don’t want to have to take down the skid every time I want to change the oil. Is it as much of an annoyance as I’m making it out to be?

Anyone have experience or recommends another brand?

Inquiring minds want to know.

I've only heard good things about RCi. Between the additional 1/16" thickness and fit and finish, I would go RCI Personally.

With RCI, you have to buy the entire set and then not use the front piece correct? Because it’s a transmission skid, transfer skid and engine skid which includes the front piece... the stock Raptor plate is legit.... I’m not removing it unless I replace the bumper.

I have over 85,000 miles on my GEN1 and have changed the oil every 6,000 miles at home by removing the skid plate. Six bolts. Not a problem.

I would say that if six bolts deters you from protecting your engine, then you don't need any skid plates at all.

If you don’t need the very front skid because of an aftermarket bumper, call RCI they will give you the set you need at a cheaper price. i have the steel version and i don’t need to remove anything but the tiny plate covering the drain plug to do an oil change.

Agreed. I’m running the steel transmission skid only and I just remove the two bolts on the access port as well. I have a stahlbus drain plug and it makes it even easier. Allows me to use a hose right into gallon jugs.
