Should I be concerned?

Hey Guys,

I am looking at buying a 2nd hand 2014 SVT Raptor here in Australia and one of the pics I have been sent shows the engine light on.
The vehicle is running as you can see the tacho is reading idle or there abouts.
It has a Whipple supercharger if that makes a difference.

Cheers

The codes would have to be read as to how concerning they are , if its poor catalyst efficiency i would not be too concerned i would get that light pop up whenever i ran Shell gas. If it is lean codes i would be concerned or missifire codes . You don't want any of that on a supercharged engine. Mine is a 2010 Raptor with a whipple. See if seller can get codes read , then post them here.

As @1BAD454SSv2 said, the seller should get that fixed before selling it to you, but if the seller is honest, they would show you why there are code(s) present, could be exhaust,co2 issues, but who knows. Good luck getting a bad ass truck.

Yep you need a code reader, should plug into the big port located directly under the steering wheel. Some codes are more important than others, as mentioned above...Good luck!!

Dave, Mac here from Queensland Sunshine Coast.
I own a 17 Raptor and that engine block icon has appeared twice since ownership.
As all of the above replies are correct, you do need a code reader. Most Ford specific mechanics do have the goods.
My issue was exhaust both times but not an issue only a code reset.
Last time it happened was recently after relaxation of Covid when the vehicle had been restarted after 2 months or so.
No worries, you are getting a good unit.
Just wondering though which company did the conversion? Mac.

It makes a world of difference, the Whipple can add 200+ rwhp over stock.

Do you know what or who's Tune it's running?

Make sure that they will give you the SCT X4 hand held tuner device with the Supercharger Tune and the Stock Tune on it.

You need this!!!
If they don't have it, take the cost of getting it off the asking price.

So you can do diagnostics and data logging and get Tune corrections to solve the engine light issues.
That is of course if it's a Tune issue, but it's most likely a mechanical issue.

It's a huge pain in the ass and money ($695 to $1000+) to get this together again on your own.

Thanks Dave, just curious as there are only 3 rated conversions in Aus. 2 are up here and the other in country Victoria,I believe.
This is a great forum but for us guys, the Tanks have more options on offer but all things considered, we are a small group with the most enviable rig.
Unbeatable from anything here.
Enjoy yours.Mac.

Cheers for the advice, I negotiated a bit better deal but do have to get myself the SCT X4 unit which is readily available here in Australia.
I am going to see if I can source the correct tune for the vehicle so I have it for the future if required.
I have also spoken to a very respected and reliable tuner who if required will check the current tune & setup a custom tune for me should the need arise.
Looking forward to getting it in about 3 weeks.
