Cool, I wonder if mine will be even more of a collectible since it's Orange and a 5.4...hmmm. I'm not going to beat it up, but it gets used off road like it was meant to, and I don't see that changing.
more of a collectible? no. More of a rare configuration? yes. Just because it's a little more rare doesn't make it more collectible. Plenty of vehicles throughout history that were rare yet not desired collectibles. Not hating on the 5.4, but years down the road, people are going to prefer the more powerful variant. Being the truck isn't intended as a cruiser where the lower power one isn't as big a deal, and being the truck isn't something as rare as some exotic classics where some skew oddball small engine size may be more worth more than a more common bigger power plant.
And for everyone reading that list, don't expect that to happen for SEVERAL decades! Just look at the Gen 2 Lightnings. Those trucks are between 8-13 years old as of 2012, and while they hold their value more than a regular f150, you can still pick them up for great deals. Same with the HD trucks. And same with the Gen 1 Lightnings from 93-95 now approaching hitting 20 years old.
For your Raptor to be worth anything as a collectible, you're going to have to lock it in a bubble, and not expect to sell it for anything near a profit for 30-40-50 years out. What fun is that? Thats one low interest bearing account if at all lol.
Long story short, DRIVE THEM and ENJOY THEM! Be happy knowing they will hold their value better than a regular f150 for resale, but you're not going to make any money on it, you just wont lose as much money if it were a regular f150, so enjoy it, beat on it, and have fun with it.
Perfect case in point relating back to the post I quoted about the moltan orange 5.4 maybe being worth more because it was the 1st year and the lesser powered fewer quantity engine. The 2000 HD was the first year for the HD trucks. The first vehicle to ever come with 20" rims all around, and really teh first vehicle to take the truck market from a workhorse geared interior to that luxury truck interior. And only the 00 and 01's were N/A, the 02-03's were supercharged and more powerful. And 00 was the only year for extended cab, 01-03 were all supercrews. MSRP was just shy of $34k. Well I bought a second 00 HD truck in June 2009 with 898 miles on the clock from a car collector who bought teh truck as an investment brand new and never drove it and literally stored it in a climate controlled bubble. I bought it for $18k. Almost HALF off and I got a BRAND NEW 9 year old truck. I took that mint brand new 9 year old piece of history with not even 1k miles on it, drove it, supercharged it, raced it, towed with it, drove all winter in the snow with it, hauled supplies and scrap with it, put it back to stock, and sold it 2.5 years after I bought it with 25k more miles on the clock, for $14k. So I got to enjoy a brand new 9 year old truck till it was 11 years old, put 25k miles on it, and only paid $142 a month for it in the end.
My point? There's been other trucks that had these same reviews and thoughts of "this one is definiteyl a collector piece!" and guys did do that and buy them and store them, yet a decade later just took a huge hit on the wallet, never enjoyed it, and sold it at a huge loss. I bought it at a huge bargain, had a blast with it, and sold it with barely any loss lol.
Do the same with the Raptors! Don't buy it as a collector truck to plan on making any money. ENJOY it!
