Have had clunking in my front suspension since I purchased my 2018 in Dec. I thought it was a ball joint (or two) but I wanted Ford to find it and fix it under warranty. I took her in for "rattle in front suspension" back in August & September and both times the service manager blamed a loose skid plate. Flash forward to this weekend, while swapping rotors and break pads found this...see anything wrong? I DO!

:favorites68: idiot service techs.

That's not a ball joint, that's the swaybar endlinks. And they fail all the time. Instead of trying to "test" the dealer techs, why don't you just point out the faulty part to them?
Thanks for the correction - replacement set of end links were ordered yesterday.

Truck went to the dealer in August and September for the rattle, I just found the problem this past Sunday. They are the GD 'professionals' I pay to tell me what the problem is.

The next time (and there will be a next time) I have a comment spot-lighting the ineptitude of Ford service, I'll keep it to myself.

Don't keep it to yourself, most of us know that these techs are usually useless, and I by know means meant that as an insult to the technicians, but the system they are controlled by at the dealers is messed up. I guess it's called "culture" these days.

Never like going to $tealerships and makes me extremely nervous when I have to. Get so tired of correcting people who are supposed to be the "experts". I know there are good techs and mechanics. They just seem so few and far between these days.

I've trusted alignments and wheel mount/dismounting to a single tech at Firestone for over 15 years. Started taking my vehicles there when I saw a SCCA Corvette on a trailer out front. Went in and struck up a conversation with the owner. Seems lots of SCCA/off road people trusted this guy and that was that. Well, he left and now I'm on the search again. It's like I lost a trusted friend.

Agreed, it is all about the individual techs. I still have not found a local Ford Service that is trustworthy or competent. It's a shame that we pay for warranties and Ford just wrings their hands and takes our $.

What I will do is change the end links myself, take pictures and email them to my local service manager-the one that said my skid plate was causing the rattle .

Any chance swaybar endlinks are covered under warranty (either factory, or an ESP plan)? I've had some clunking in the front end of my truck also which I've been unable to diagnose. Here is a picture of what one of mine looks like, but they both look pretty similar. How do I tell if they're bad?

Hopefully you mean the service advisor's boss. 99% of service advisors are worthless pieces of sh it. They spend their time blowing smoke up customers behinds and selling them unneeded services on commission. They'll tell any lie they can to avoid the relatively unprofitable(to them) warranty service. FMC doesn't seem to care. I got free oil changes when my local dealer stomped all over his(and my) ****. But I won't even go in for that. It's too scary wondering what they'll manage to mess up.
