Not happening. Just another clickbait article with no real source. Ford has no reason or incentive to put a different engine in a truck they sell as fast as they can make. Remember all the articles about how the 2019 Raptor was "definitely" getting the V8? smh

In an amateur offroad application, 700hp is completely unusable. Even 450hp is overkill on dirt. And not only is 700hp unusable offroad, it is actually a liability between the increased fuel consumption (less range) and extra weight of the engine and upsized drivetrain components.

It's pretty obvious 700hp is only intended to knock people's socks off on pavement. But if that's the case, the Raptor's chassis is a horrible platform for street performance. The 35s are ridiculously heavy and slow. As are the hundreds of pounds of skid plates and other oversized offroad bits. The 2.7EB beats the Raptor off the line because the Raptor is a pig with its 700lbs of extra offroad crap.

IMO, the best application of a 700hp motor is in a lightweight street truck, aka the Lightning. FCA realized as much when they made the Trackhawk a pavement princess instead of an offroader. If Ford is aiming for the ultimate performance street truck, they should do the same thing. Mall crawlers will get their neck-bending 0-60 times in a new Lightning and the offroad gang will keep their uncompromised offroad truck. That's a win-win.

.

Horsepower is adjustable by how far you push your right foot down.

You must drive your truck Full throttle offroad all the time, 700 hp would not be a good choice for you.

Ford had the best selling vehicle in the F150 before the Raptor existed yet they still made the Raptor. How do you reconcile that fact with your theory?

Mostly agree with jaz13. It'll be fast on pavement, but if anything, it may be a liability in the dirt. For something at a $90k+ prirce point, I would more interested another ~100 hp and the rest of the money going into even more suspension. Another inch or two of travel + even bigger shocks + finned reservoirs + no blocks + factory hydraulic bumps. Maybe also improve the brakes, I get mine hot when desert running. I don't like the sound of the EB, but if it's beefed up in the right places, I imagine it'd be fine as a 550 hp platform.

That said, depending on the pricing, I expect Ford would sell as many supercharged 5.2 raptors as they can make.

This right here. High performance engines will always reward those who treat them accordingly, and make those who don't pay with insurance deductibles.

This engine would bring out the best in the truck, and for many, the driver as well. Fingers crossed it becomes a reality.

The incentive Ford has now is called TRX. I doubt they will go back to a V8, but use an Ecoboost with an electric motor to step up performance. Ford already has this setup ready to roll on the Lincoln Aviator. With a 3.0 it has over 450 HP and over 600 lb ft torque.
