GEN 1 Retrofit Question

I'm wondering if anyone has retrofitted their OEM halogen headlights with the Moromito MLED projectors? Have you had any issues? Are they worth the extra money over HID? I currently have custom retrofitted HID's but one of the halos is out and they are pretty old so was thinking about upgrading to the new D2s 5.0. Since i already have bulbs, ballasts and wire harness I'd only be upgrading the projectors and led halos and strips. I have had issues in the past with ballasts and ignitors going out as well as having to turn the lights off and on to get the drivers side to fire which are just typical issues with retrofits. The LED projectors don't require a harness, ballast, bulbs, ect and seem to be brighter than the HID so its a very appealing retrofit. Just wondering if anyone has done any retrofits with the LED's and curious on your thoughts.

One more question. Does anyone know if the projector headlights from OEMassive have the same bolt pattern as the Morimoto projectors? I'd like to use that style housing instead of the Halogen one so the projector is a little more secure and not cantilevered off the back of the reflector

What did you end up going with? I've still got the reflectors on my 2012, I feel like holding a flashlight out the window would be more effective at times. Your option sounds intriguing.

i used these headlights from OEMmassive.com and these projectors. Unfortunately the bolt pattern isn't the same so i had to fab a spacer to attach to the projector and then attach that to the headlight housing. You do have to do quite a bit of trimming of the existing cutout since the LED projector is much larger than the halogen one that comes in the lights. Luckily i have access to laser cutters and cnc routers as well as design software so i was able to make one out of ABS fairly easily. Aside from the fab work and custom brackets they went together fairly smoothly and i'm really happy with the results. the lights don't bounce or flicker and its really nice not having bulbs, ballast and wire harness that can fail. Also, those headlights are much easier to pull apart than the actual OEM Halogen housings. All these aftermarket headlights use retro rubber to seal so you can generally get them apart after one bake.

I'm almost ignorant enough to go this route, they are damn expensive but having a laser combined with the high beam would legit on dirt roads at night. Appreciate the help!

Did you have any pics of the bracket when it was apart? Or any pics of the process when you put it together?

I’m no stranger to doing retros, but I’ve never had to fab up anything for an install. Like you said, it would be great to not mess with failing bulbs, igniters, relays and ballasts anymore.

These MLEDS are also a good option for my other retrofit in my Honda, as it is an H4 housing and they would screw right in! Im still running D2S 3.0's on those and theyre still good, the MLED 2.0 look like a game changer for sure.

My truck was factory halogen but i had upgraded to a set of HID retrofits (D2S) in the halogen housing. I bought them complete from another member here and they served me well for 5 years but they were getting pretty old as i'm sure they were 2-3 years old when i bought them. After having a few ballast. ignitors, and wire harness failed i decided to upgrade to the MLED. Like i said before the OEMmassive headlights don't use the same bolt pattern so i had to fab those spacers and open up the hole for the projector but its super secure and 4 bolts securing the projector and 4 bolts securing the adapter keeps these lights nice and stable so i don't get any bouncing or flickering like i did with the HID's. I'll get some night shots tonight but i can say they're as bright or brighter than the HID's, and i'm glad i went with these over the cheaper HID's. One thing i will note for anyone who has HID retrofits in a halogen truck. Depending on what you did with the drivers side OEM headlight plug but it may need to be replaced. I taped mine up pretty well but water still got in there and corroded it and i needed to replace it since the LED's use the OEM wiring.
