We just destroyed the world economy for a bad case of the flu. Nothing more. We did not shut down the world for H1N1, Swine Flu, SARS, or MERS. We did shut down the world for this corona crap. Have to get someone out of political office. This is the only way to do it. A few years ago, almost 80,000 in the USA died of the flue alone. We did not shut down the country.
We've always quarantined the sick and at risk before. This time, we've just quarantined everyone. It's unprecedented. Meanwhile, over 600,000 in the USA alone will die of heart disease this year.
Respectfully to the medical professional that chimed in here... I have a medical background (Once a paramedic with ACLS) but am now an airline pilot. I just had my flight physical this week. My flight surgeon is one of the most experienced and senior ones in the entire USA. No one in his office was wearing masks. He says it's a waste of time and too much hassle for the 1% that they "might" help.
IMHO.. We TOTALLY f-ed this up from the start. Quarantine the sick and at risk. The sick and at risk need to be wearing the masks. NOT THE HEALTHY.
