***Disclaimer*** Yes my truck is dirty. I use the heck out of it. 51k miles in a year!***

I've had a few requests to show where I have my VHF and Lowrance mounted. The VHF is an Icom F121 that I programmed myself using software and a cable from eBay. It is mounted on the passenger side of the console, and I routed the power cable through the console. The Antenna is a mag mount that runs between the rear door, down the trim, under the passenger seat. I wasn't ready to drill a hole in my roof (I'm still not). I had great reception in Baja, although it did get knocked off a few times due to trees.

I just installed my Lowrance Elite 5M this week prior to my Colorado trip. The main reason I got it was to prerun the Texas Desert racing series' and for Baja. I am not quite happy or finished with the mount yet though. There is no good place to mount this GPS without drilling holes directly in the dash. I wanted the GPS near eye level, so I could look at it while driving.

What I ended up doing is routed the cables up to the clutter tray, and drilled a hole in the big indention on the actual tray. I then cut a small slit in the mat at the front of the speaker, and ran the wires up through that. The mount is a 1x2 painted black, it is screwed into the tray. Then the GPS mount is screwed to that. The GPS mount was too big to fit in the tray without the board. I didnt want to screw directly into the dash, so I used loctite mounting tape to secure the front of the Mount.

The external antenna is mounted on the plastic at the back of the hood. The cable runs through where the hood hinge goes, and through the firewall.

Your truck is dirty...

I'm digging the Lowrance. Some boater would end up stealing it from my truck around here.

Very nice. 2 questions -

1) Is it difficult to program the Icom?
2) Where are you pulling the power from?

Yes it is. Baja Silt doesn't come out very easily. And I'm Lazy...

1. No, the software does all the work. You need a good freq list to start with. I got mine from some racing buddies. It has all the Major teams and Pit Orgs.
2. Everything is coming direct from the battery. There is a little *** on top of the grommet where the wiring loom passes through the firewall. I cut it off and fed everything through that.

No License. Breakin the law, breakin the law... Even if I did have a Ham License its running on commercial freqs, so its illegal either way, but all the race teams do it.

You can buy topo from people that have the Lowrance Mapcreate software (which is discontinued), and impossible to find. PCI Race Radios will Sell me one with Baja, CA, NV, UT, CO, NM, and TX for a hundred bucks.
