GEN 2 Problem with Focus & Fiesta, could it happen to the Raptor?

The transmission in question is the Ford Powershift transmission, which is basically a manual transmission shifted automatically with a series of dry clutches. And as a former Focus owner, it is terrible and there really is no fix. Ford tried to buy time with some TCM refreshes that did nothing. Even with the clutches replaced, it's only a matter of time before the tranny goes bad again. Very poor design. Raptors have a standard torque converter tranny and not affected by this.

The Tranny in these trucks was obsessed over by the 2 biggest truck manufacturers in the world & despite being brutal competitors they opted to work together to produce a world class transmission that was meant to handle high power high stress applications while providing good fuel economy.

While GM was codeveloping this tranny they were selling vehicles equipped w/ an 8 speed they knew/know is ****** up & that’s partly what led to this new 10 speed.

That being said- I find it very hard to believe after coming outta bankruptcy then Producing a whole generation of Mexican built garbage trucks w/ garbage trannies that they’d let this 10 speed come out w/o making damn sure it’s as close to bulletproof as possible.

It is a new design so I’m sure there will be some cases of failure/problems but by and large it SHOULD be plenty stout.

If it isn’t this will be the last time Ford & GM work together on anything & Ford will be screwed cuz GM will throw their hands up & just call Allison up to make one for them just like Dodge did w/ ZF. Not sure if the ZF 8 speed (which is very nice btw) is proprietary to dodge but you gotta guess dodge has something in contract stating it can’t be sold to
Their competition.
