Ford next gen raptor will be electric. Hybrid would be much better but the genius at Ford thought otherwise. If youre in the desert around superstition you might even see it being tested.
How do you propose to do this with an already 3 ton vehicle, keep the handling characteristics off road, maintain the price point, and still permit a water crossing? Think about this.

Eliminating a transfer case and using an electric motor up front is the only plausible option. I think it would work very well and opens up a lot of packaging options without the tcase/driveshaft

Did someone say ‘weight penalty’? The batteries needed to sustain even a 200 mile range would add more than 2x the weight you’d save with the elimination of the t/c.
Look at the Aviator vs. Explorer ST. Aviator touring uses the hybrid electric powertrain mated to the same 3.0TT (ish). it’s got gobs of torque, and it’s within about .2 seconds in the 1/4 mile. The weight gain is very close to 1000 pounds. The GT Touring is 5700 pounds - What a Gen 2 weighs on a good day.

That additional weight would require the whole suspension to be redesigned from the ground up, tires and all. Maybe E rated KO2/3 would be sufficient, but you’re talking about pushing the Raptor weight past TRX levels.

We could get there, but I don’t think it’s going to be the next gen Raptor, unless they drop the F150 from the Raptor lineup. Even then, battery weight and efficiency just isn’t there.

Could see Ford going to a "higher output" powerboost for the next Raptor.
IIRC Ford is going to more of a hybrid mindset once they realized the market was never for 100% EV at this time-or ever.

But fully electric, doubt it.

Where are we going to cut enough weight to accommodate the 1,000-1,500 pounds it will take up?

Powerboost does have good enough potential, but not at the weight penalty exhibited on the Aviator.

I could be wrong, but I thought for the 21+ F-150's the weight between a F150 with the 3.5 and the 3.5 powerboost was 500lb in the same trim/body style.

No real way to shake the weight, but if they can bump the numbers closer to the RHO, at least the quickness of the truck will offset the weight.
Offroading you'll notice the weight probably a la the Gen 1 vs Gen 2.

Never say never on any of these directions. Ford is being led by environmental ideologues who are abused by the EPA. They don’t think rationally or with a market mindset.
