Parking Break Issue

I am experiencing an issue with my parking break, when I get in and get ready to drive off I pull to release the parking break but the light still shows that the parking break is still applied and the alarm is still going off. I have tried to solve the issue by going under the truck and physically pulling on the Parking break line to make sure it is released, then drove a couple of feet and noticed that the Parking break is not applied but the light and alarm are still on.

Has anyone else had this issue, or does anyone know how to fix it?

I am trying to avoid having to take a tirp to the dealer and having them keep it over night or a few nights...

sounds to me that it would maybe be something with the pedal and release rather than the brake itself. im not sure where the sensor is. have you looked all around at the pedal to make sure its fully returning to the normal position? i would think maybe its just not coming up quite far enough to get off the sensor

I have noticed a similar issue. I use my parking brake literally every single time because I know it relieves pressure off the transmission. I normally put my foot on the pedal when I release it as to not let it slam. When I do that occasionally it will stay on. I assumed it is the switch/sensor may be going bad. I can get it to go out if I allow it to slam...

Bingo. It's under the dash on the parking brake lever arm, and may well be the same part number as the brake light switch. Without looking at it myself, I can tell you that on many other vehicles it's a threated adjustment with a lock nut.

+1 on that.. I better be on a hell of a hill before I use a parking break. I grew up in Alaska and my dad taught me not to use them because they would freeze from our wet roads and cold nights. Now I' almost 60 and the habit just stayed with me. Never an issue..

There is a TSB regarding the cables. They stretch badly. Take it to the dealer mine were replaced under my esp warranty

this is what i had to end up doing, i was told that the sensor was faulty and had to be replaced.

So? Just the sensor? The cables were ok? Glad it's fixed and you are back in the saddle again, hate leaving vehicles at the dealer!
