At 19750 miles, my truck produced a solid check engine light. At idle it felt a little spotty, but not as bad as how a misfire is. Scanned the engine computer following day and saw P0496 code.P0496: Evaporative Emissions System High Purge Flow. Being a Porsche tech, I went on parts schematics and looked at the tank ventilation system. I came across a couple of purge valves, but the easiest one to test was the one located on top of the engine, under the engine cover. Performed a smoke test, and observed a decent leak coming from the vent tube on top. Luckily the dealer 3 miles up on the street, had one in stock. After 50+ miles, several key cycles, the truck runs smooth, with no warning light.My truck is under warranty; but all dealers are 2=3 weeks back logged. For some bizarre reason they want the truck in asap, and keep in queue. They will not give an appointment otherwise. Fuel tank ventilation is pretty complex, so there might be a problem coming from other parts, with similar codes, so it is always good to have a proper diagnostic.
