Quick update. Windshield gets installed Thursday Morning. $255 Installed. I ordered the Rain Sensor, Rain Sensor cover and decided to go for the entire roof harness rather than running individual wires. The costs for those three parts is $144. So I will ballpark this mod at $500. We will see how close I am in a week or two.

OK.. Windshield is installed, just drove 50 miles from the Glass installer to my work. I'm not going to sit here and type a ton of BS (or tonne for those on the other side of the pond) about how wonderful it is... Just my observations, no quantitative analysis to backup any claims.

There is a noticeable difference between the factory windscreen and the SoundScreen windscreen. With both out of the vehicle, tapping both made for very different responses. the SoundScreen made a much deeper, dead sound. The factory glass sounded like you were tapping on your glass. (If any of that makes sense)

On the ride to work, there is more tire noise in the cabin than noticed prior to the change...why? Because there is less wind-noise right in front of your face. There is also a perceptible difference in the sound of precipitation hitting the windscreen, a more muted, dead thump.

Overall, I am happy thus far, going to pickup the other goodies from the dealer after work. And for the record, the installed price was $300. So we are up to $444 for the project.

A few notes about the Headliner Wiring harness installation. The factory harness is hot-glued in place and requires care to remove without damaging the headliner. TAKE YOUR TIME!!! Sharp Razor knife and taking your time is the only thing between you and disaster.

The Rain Sensor requires 3 wires. 1) Key-on Hot, 2) LIN-Bus Communication 3) Ground. The ground is tied to an existing ground in the new harness. The Key-On and LIN-Bus wires occupy two pin locations in the new harness. Of Course they do not exist on the existing body harness (I was expecting them not being there).

You have two options from here...

Option 1) Run two wires from the rear of the body harness, up the passenger side of the truck, come across the vehicle to the drivers side at the B-Pillar and then forward to their connection point in the drivers-side lower kick panel.

Option 2) If you intend to install rear heated seats and also have the electronic folding/extending Trailer Tow Mirrors, splurge and purchase the body harness 14A005 for a King-Ranch/Platinum/Limited. this will give you all the wiring from the dashboard back to the rear window. While expensive and intrusive to install, you will have all the factory wiring and while you are at it have a chance to clean every square inch of the interior of your truck (As it sits neatly on the floor of the garage while you are installing the harness.)

Call me crazy, but given that I am installing the factory rear heated seats I think that given the materials and the amount of time it would take me to build and run the overlay harness, purchasing the factory harness and installing it would be more cost-effective.

I did notice an extra, unused connector above the headliner mounted right above the rear window on the passenger side. Have no idea what that could be for... Anyone?
