Is your new truck a 2020? Some whine at idle or while driving is normal, as the 10R80 has an offset gear drive in the front support, which is unique to this transmission. If it is a high-pitched whine that occurs during light acceleration or coasting, there was a small window of build dates with a bearing issue; Ford released a TSB for dealers to resolve the issue. The affected build date range was 10/21/19 to 12/16/19.
Yes..2020...and it seem you are describing the sound I am hearing..with respect to the 10R80..it does go up in pitch slightly upon reviving the engine..and is not noticeable when the engine/transmission are cold and when driving..especially with the windows up...thank you very much for your comments..greatly appreciated....now if you can just help me with my other 2020 Raptor ...lol...that is at the dealership in the process of being bought back due to excessive rust (came from the dealership that way..not noticed by me until a few days later)..but they have stepped up and have picked up my truck and taken back to the dealership (about 4 hrs away)..@ford corporate is supposed to get back to me on 10/15...keeping my fingers crossed..

Here is what i have found..my build date is 9/2020..so it shouldn't be affected..but you never know...

NHTSA ID Number 10172966

Manufacturer Communication Number: TSB 20-2083

Summary

Some 2020 F-150/Mustang/Ranger vehicles equipped with a 10R80 transmission and built on 21-Oct-2019 and through 16-Dec-2019 may exhibit a high-pitched whine noise coming from the transmission at low speeds during light acceleration or coasting. This may be due to the outer output shaft bearing. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure steps to replace the transmission inner output shaft bearing, fluid passage sleeve and outer output shaft bearing.

If you can only hear it when reving the engine at a stop and it’s not audible with the windows up, it is most likely normal pump whine, especially since your truck is not in the affected build date range. The whine described in the TSB is very noticeable when driving; it’s not something you have to listen for.

Just go off the phone with @Ford they say that the Rusty Raptor - kindly nicknamed - does not meet the requirements for the buy back..however they are going to resubmit the request for a goodwill buyback in the next 3 days or so..so all is not lost..however the light is dimming..lol..so I will continue to hold my breath until next Wednesday/Thursday...wish me luck! (2020 for raptor - build date 2/20 - purchased 9/2020 notice the rust about 3-4 days after purchase - dealership recommends buy back as well - they are being very helpful.

I don’t run one on mine. I’m not a fan of drilling into the factory air inlet piping and creating a potential leak path for dust/dirt. They can also cause DTCs to set, as crankcase emissions requirements have become more strict, requiring the PCM to monitor the PCV system pressure closely with tight tolerances.

The dealer should take the truck back on their dime. They should easily be able to touch it up and resell it for near MSRP. There’s a good chance that rust happened during transport, which the dealer can report to Ford within a specific timeframe after delivery. Ford will then have the transport company pay for the damages. The dealer should’ve noticed the issue before selling it to you; it’s not a manufacturing defect.

That looks like my 17 Hellcat I had corrosion all over the bottom from transport and storage at the plant. It really ruined my owner experience and Dodge told me to pound sand and I sold it after a year. Glad they are taking care of you.

This one has to be on the dealer. I have never heard of rust as being a defect off an assembly line. The dealer should have taken the time to better inspect the truck. Or they may have figured, they can just pass it on to a discriminating buyer. One that is shelling out a lot of money for a performance vehicle. One that wouldn’t be all over the truck right? Wouldn’t care as it’s just a vehicle to get you to point A to point B right? Foolish dealership, now it’s on them.

However they can spend a minimal amount of time, money and effort and resell that truck for a great price as @FordTechOne said. I could even do it pretty fast. But you as a new owner shouldn’t have to. It’s about having a wonderful experience with your purchase of a vehicle like this.
