Hey guys, been a lurker for a while, finally decided to introduce myself. This will probably be way too long of an intro post, if you want the TL;DR, I traded in my 13 for a brand new 20, plenty of pictures below.

So I had my 2013 for the past 2+ years and over the past 2 years I've used my truck for a fair amount of stuff, towing my racecar, carrying motorcycles, hauling engines and transmissions, hauling countless wheels and tires, jumping dunes at Silver Lake, bombing through blizzards and loads of snow at winter events like Sno Drift, being a trackside support vehicle, towing cars cross country and making tons of memories all without ever skipping a beat. Seriously, such a solid truck.

It seriously treated me good but I live in Michigan and it's brutal on vehicles when it comes to corrosion. The two previous owners of my gen 1 didn't do anything in regards to corrosion protection so there was some light underbody rust that isn't an issue now, but I didn't want to chance it becoming an issue in the future.

So about a month ago I went to my local dealer to see if I could still place an order for a 20, and of course they told me no. I was a bit discouraged because I had already optioned out a truck and knew exactly what I wanted and told myself there's no way in hell I'd find a new truck optioned like this.

- Oxford White or Lead Foot Gray
- 801a package
- Torsen front diff
- Beadlock wheels
- Bed lights
- Trailer brake controller
- Remote start
- Tailgate applique delete (so hard to find)
- Tailgate step
- Bed extender

But I decided to look around to see how close I could get to finding the right one. And low and behold, I found a dealer down in Oklahoma located right off the original Route 66 who had not 1 but 2 trucks that were 95% what I wanted. The only things missing were the bed extender (bed is barely too short to close the gate with my motorcycle loaded) but I can get one later, and the tailgate step which I had on my gen 1 and ended up using way more than I thought I would, but not a deal breaker.

Of the two trucks they had the only difference was color, one truck was Magnetic Grey, the other was Oxford White. A few days after I found them the Mag Gray truck sold (coincidently enough, to another fellow who lives in Michigan who also works for Ford; I spent the past year with Ford as an engineer doing lots of development work on the 3.5 Ecoboost amongst other things). So the Oxford White truck was still left. The dealer gave me a very reasonable number for trade in on my gen 1 and we hammered out a day that I would drive down there to trade in.

That was this past Friday. I drove down there overnight, got there at 9am, got my new truck, got right back on the road and came back home. I do photography as a hobby so whenever I go on long trips to new places I usually take my Nikon with me. Here's a few of my favorites I got along with one of my favorites of my gen 1. Had to compress the photos as they're a bit too big to attach here.

Anyway, sorry for the long intro, thanks for reading!

Welcome and congrats! Two beautiful trucks! Since you did development work on the 3.5 Ecoboost would appreciate hearing your opinions on the engine overall compared to the 6.2 in your 2013.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys!

I always hear people gripe about how they think the 3.5 isn't as reliable as the 6.2. After seeing 3.5s abused for thousands of hours on engine dynos and surviving crazy over temp and very high cylinder pressure conditions amongst other terrible conditions, I have zero doubt about the 3.5 being a reliable engine. It most certainly is one of if not thee most robust engine Ford has made in the past 10 years.

With that said, it's still a turbo engine so it needs to be properly cared for. What I usually tell people is this, both are extremely reliable engines, but the 6.2 handles neglect better. That's pretty normal when you compare any naturally aspirated engine to a turbo engine though. Properly cared for, either will run indefinitely.

Proper oil change intervals with a good synthetic, changing the coolant every few years, and changing spark plugs when they foul sounds extremely simple, and it is, but it always amazes me how many people overlook basic maintenance and then when something fails they blame it on the vehicle.

Congrats on the new truck. Both trucks look equally awesome.

Do you know or can say, what version of the ‘21 3.5 compares more to the current 3.5 or 3.5 HO?

Any work with the the PB development?

Enjoy that new truck!

There's three variants of the 3.5, base, HEV (for hybrids), and HO. All three variants are being produced going forward for the next few years. There's a fair amount of changes in the 3.5 for 21.

What are you referring to with PB?

glad you didnt get rolled while down on the river front!!! no way in hell i go down there after dark anymore.

I believe it haha. I grew up in the Chicagoland area and it definitely has a south side feel in some places.
