Hey gang,

So I just got back from the Snoball last week. One of the things I brought was a Garmin Nuvi 500 that was supposed to provide offroad Nav...It didn't.

So now I plan on getting my wife a new ipad 4 and taking her current ipad 3.

Question:

For those with ipads, can you please provide the names of any GPS offroad apps that will work and your experience/opinion of them??

I would like to be better prepared for the TRR in April.

Thanks.

I had issues with any cell phone (droid razr maxx) related gps applications Back country navigator worked great for awhile, then it was totally useless when cell signal was low (even though I had topo maps downloaded on the phone)..

The Maxx as an "aGPS" Greg. As in an "assisted GPS", which means you have to have cell signal for it to work (as you found out). Get a smartphone with a dedicated GPS chip and BackCountry Navigator will be your best friend.

As for the iPad, +1 for MotionX. I don't use it myself but have a few buddies who have iOS devices and they swear by it.

We use Motion-X GPS and we're really happy with it

You'll also want to get on of these. Worked great and I'm pretty sure night Raptor 1 is in love with it. He even stuck it to the table at lunch...lol
Just keep an eye on the price. I nabbed it for $38, but its showing $50 right now.

Here it is on the front window, can also mount it to the side window.
