Need some advice...

I have a 2017 Shelby Baja purchased new in 3/2019, has 15,000 miles. Had 3 episodes of total loss of power (perhaps the dreaded “limp mode” I see). Wrench warning light came on. Dealer was unable to find anything. Reset after turning the truck off/on. Ford had it for over 60 days to try and diagnose.

They offered to buy it back (will lose about $13,000 in depreciation), or will give me $10,000 refund and I keep the truck, with full warranty in effect. They will not swap it out for a new Shelby Baja.

Suggestions/thoughts? I bought it as a leftover for $90,000. So if I take the $10,000 it’s a pretty sweet deal to have a Shelby Baja for pretty much the price of a loaded standard Raptor. But it keeps nagging me that it is not 100%.

I would ask for more than $10k if you wanna keep it .

For me , my OCD is always a huge thing. If I have something and I know it’s not perfect, it’s always bother me lol

Can't see how taking the $10k is even a good thing if you are going to continue to have the same problem. Lemon law buy back? Have you spoken to an attorney? Good luck.

This is an exceedingly worrisome offer. to me, it sounds like the admission of defeat; “dude, no idea what’s up, but sucks to be you”.

If it were mine, I’d take the buyout and run. I want my vehicles to start when I turn the key, run like a scalded cat when I depress or rotate the accelerator, and stop when I hit the brakes.

Your vehicle would not pass this test and more importantly, Ford is telling you ‘we don’t know what’s wrong, but we’ll give you money or buy it back’.

yeah, where I’m from, we call that a “clue”.

It’s up to you of course, but it sounds like they can not make it right.

All in line with my thought. Drop the truck and take the cash. Just wanted some other thoughts to hopefully minimize likelihood of regret after selling back.

As a recovering Ducati owner, I completely understand, and sympathize. Nobody wants a vehicle that sometimes doesn’t start, or suddenly shuts down like the microsoft blue screen of death, or, in some circumstances just spontaneously combusts. While it does add to the vehicle excitement, it can be a bit disconcerting to come out of a gas station to find your vehicle engulfed in flames.

These vehicles are not simple, and can take several propeller headed geniuses to successfully troubleshoot.

It depends on your priorities but if you’ve managed multiple limp mode episodes and they cannot figure it out - it’s time to pull the eject handles.

Yeah...what he said! You can do a lot with 77k. If you’re miles out away from civilization, you want peace of mind. I think I’d never get out in the woods if I had your truck (unless I carried a satellite phone...)

No way, take the money and loss and go from there. Sorry this is happening to you, but no way I want a troublesome vehicle. Move onto the next.

That loss due to depreciation isn’t that bad spread out over the year + of ownership. Take the dough
