I’ve had my 2019 for about a week, and I’m planning my mods. I’ll be using it probably 80% street, 20% Offroad. It will share daily driving duties with my M3 and will also haul lumber and such. My initial inclination was to go with an MPT tune, a relocated IC, and CAI, but I’m in Cali for now, and MPT will not sell me a tune. Accordingly, I’m planning on going with the Whipple Stage 1 Kit.
I know there are other tunes out there (Cobb, 5 Star, etc.), but the Whipple Kit seems to get good reviews, includes a tranny tune, is considered safe, and is sold and installed by a local Ford dealer which will cost a bit more but give me a 3 year warranty from Whipple if I ever have an issue with Ford, in addition to being Cali legal, so it seems like a pretty good choice since I was going to get an upgraded IC and CAI anyway. Seems like it will give me a little less power than some other choices, but I think I would be happy with a solid power and tranny improvement without going totally nuts. If I really want to go fast and slay tires I can always jump in the M3.
But the Whipple IC is in the stock position, so that means the integrated winch bumpers I like are not going to work. I think I can live with this, as I don’t really *need* a winch, and could still get a cool bumper with an integrated light bar.
Any thoughts on:
(1) my reasoning
(2) doing a modified Whipple with a relocated IC
(3) the warranty issue
(4) the quality of the Whipple IC and CAI?
Thanks.
