Hmmm...this may explain the clunking sound I hear now with my roof. If I vent it or slide it a bit it stops. I'll try this tonight. I have alcohol and silicone grease already.
That is exactly what it is - the rubber seals get sticky and the motor has to really torque to get the glass open. In doing so, this is what breaks the track. Once lubed up, the seal won't stick and it will open nice and smoothly.

Shoot, hopefully the track isn't broken and that's why it's clunking. It opens just fine and sounds smooth. I'll check it out asap! Thx

Thanks for the info. I never use my sunroof but this could be good to know and do just to avoid future problems if I do use it or from lack of use. Nice to have all in one thread.

I am not an expert, but my reading has led me to believe that exercising it periodically is key to keeping it functioning well. Kind of like a locking diff. If you don't use it, you lose it (or...it gets sticky and won't engage and disengage smoothly)

Also a video on the lubing proceedure:

The procedure he does in the video is no doubt beneficial and will probably go a long way towards preventing problems. But what he did is not the full TSB procedure. He did about 20% of the TSB procedure. He also used the Krytox grease on the weatherstripping instead of the new weatherstrip lube Ford specifies in the updated TSB. That Krytox grease is now only used on the latching mechanism. In a previous version of the TSB it was indeed used on the latching mechanism and the weatherstripping. So just an FYI to readers, this video is good for getting oriented, but I recommending following the Ford TSB procedure, which is slightly different.

Does this apply to the regular moon roof's present in a SuperCab? I get some creaking with the moon roof closed but the visor part fully open. Would Ford do this TSB or anything to my vechile still under warranty?

You can still lube the outer seal of the sunroof - vent and lube the rear section then open and lube the front of the sunroof.
