This is not true for the entire state.  I bought my 2018 a year ago before the prices started to come down and I had 4 dealers in the Houston area who were at $1000-1500 below MSRP on a $68K optioned truck.  I picked the one with the closest match to what I would have ordered myself.  Other TX dealers still wanted $5-10K over, so you have to be willing to check around and keep searching until you find the right match at the right dealer.


I did all of my research and negotiating online and over email, and never spoke to anyone until the day I walked into the dealership to pick it up.  I did NOT have a trade so there was no BS about how much my low mileage Gen 1 was worth. I have used the same techniques to buy my last 8 vehicles and it took a little longer with my Gen 2, but not long enough to make me go out of state.
