I live in Virginia and we are required to have bumper lighting that is aftermarket covered for state inspection. I am looking for a LED kit that has a full bumper hole cover and not just individual light covers. Anyone know of such a beast?

Look at the vehicle inspection code; you’re on borrowed time. OP is correct, VA requires that there be no more than 4 illuminated forward facing (clear) lights, including headlights, so any fogs / drivers must deactivate with high beams and activate along with low beams. if they run independently, they have to be covered. All the uncovered lights have to actually work.

My old ZX11 passed inspection with a rock chip on the headlight lens for 7 years at the same state inspector. Year 8 he flunked me. The chip had knocked a piece off the --inside-- of the headlight lens, nothing on the outside. He was adamant.

Went to a bike shop the next day and they passed it. Lots of vehicle inspection code is an ‘excuse to make a non consensual encounter’ happen.

OP:

You can hit up any of the supporting lighting vendors here to help you out.
I picked up the Baja Designs SAE fogs just recently, they can actually be run with low beams. I haven’t gotten to wiring that part up yet, right now just running off one of the up fitters. The hitch is that they have to shut off with the high beams [to be road legal]

The other lights I just got B/D covers for.

I just cut leather pieces for the grille light

I didn't say the OP was incorrect, I said mine passed. I see them all over this state with the same cubes in the bumpers, the trucks with the roof mounted led bars are the ones that get ticketed in my experience.

Agree; it’s not so much getting ticketed. Very, very few cops are going to initiate a stop based on exposed, non-SAE lighting. Unless you’re (ab)using them, it’s only an inspection violation, small fine, no points, not a moving violation and no insurance implication.

It could be used as an excuse to stop you and try to cajole you into a vehicle search. No big deal, right? We’ve got nothing to hide. Keep in mind that Virginia hosts the longest continuously running body of lawmakers anywhere nearby; stealing freedom since 1607.
§ 18.2-94. Possession of burglarious tools, etc

There’s a lot that the courts have included in this category, of some infamy, bolt cutters found during a traffic stop.

I have a couple friends with jeeps ( I know, I know... ) who are running ginormous LED bars across the top of the windshield and they make inspection yearly too. But eventually an inspector is likely to flunk it, and it’s a PITA to be unprepared. Like I said, I just keep covers with me, cover up the lights for inspection, pull the covers the next time I need the lights.

And you all complain about California lol SMFH

I’ll bet we find a lot of commonality in the inspection codes. This stuff is largely implemented via regulatory process based on professional groups made up of ’transportation’ or motor vehicle agency reps. Essentially, lobbying groups who make up model legislation and regulation. It’s not so much that we make fun of Cali. But yeah.

Just get the amber or other colored snap on lenses that go over the cube style lights - fordraptorlights.com

It said CLEAR lights right? Remove the lenses whenever you're not getting inspected.

Its EZ to have the fogs go off with high beams using a relay. The relay is primary to the Upfitter Switch.

Google it or You Tube it. There are wiring diagrams out there.
