If your city driving on dry pavement drive systems are in motion everything rotating there is no direct connection to rear wheel , once slippage is detected it engages clutch in transfercase and sends power to front axles. 4 hi locks front and rear together , that's why its bad to run 4hi and turn corners on pavement. 4A you can turn corners and not bind up . I run 4a in rain and   i also switch to 4a to make sure hubs engage  then 4hi when i'm getting ready for a boost launch . I really don't know long term effects of leaving in 4a , just that is not recommended as far i what i have read.</p></blockquote><p></p>
