So what is the driving factor to a shorty header, easier install or cost?
I agree with sky n Dan. But the discussion ended last time with some question as to the gains available with shortys. So I would be concerned about stating cost as a driving factor if that would reduce performance gains.
OK. I revisited all the previous discussion. I want performance gains that will pass emissions test. That's it.
Jason has said that the low end torque gains may not be great (compared to LTs) but that won't deter me. I would also opt for coating if it will help.
Pro: Will work with Twin-Turbo Setup
oops I forgot that one.. ha ha haPro: Will work with Twin-Turbo Setup
As for low end torque, running 411 gears and 6 speed transmission you aint going to see the difference, you will see it on a dyno. Adding shorty headers to the 2v engine will clean it up tremendously. If this was a 3v or a 4v motor you would need the LTs for sure.
Shorty header pro's..
No need for a tune to cancel out back O2's
Will not cause drone...
Can pass any state emission testing
can add up to 15+20hp and +25 Tq( more if you polish the exhaust ports when installing)
Cost is less...( no need for aftermarket cats)
Hook to factory cats...
No problems with warranty...
Shorty Con's..
Less hp and less Tq than long tube headers( LT's can add up to +30hp and +35 Tq)
